I cant beleive i found this place! - Monday, May 05, 2003 8:30 PM ( #1 )
This is exactly the type of forum i have been trying to find for ages!

So far i have lost around 40lbs of wieght and have been basically playing with weights, just trying to tone up a bit. I still have about 20lbs of body fat to lose, but thats just a guess. But what i have found in the last few months of playing at home with the home gym and free weight, is that i really like the way it is changing my body. So far its only my upper vody that is showing realy signs of change and also my calfs.
I ve joined a gym, its not open yet, but its grandopening is the 12th May so i really excited about getting started. Everything there is brand new...fantastic equipment and now i just want AT IT!
i only wanted to tone til i got started but now ive done a little research and seen some results i want to get serious about body building. I dont just want long lean muscles, as i did in the beginning, i really want to build up my muscle mass so my body looks totally different.
Im 5ft tall, 37 yrs old, in really good health except for a few extra pounds....and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I can and will follow advice, im not scared to work hard as this is something i really truely want.
So please, tell me, what to read, what to do, who to talk to , what to eat...i need to know it all! I want to know it all!
Ive made a decision to do this and im very excited about it as you may be able to tell from this post.

Hi Dawn! Welcome.

I' m sure our members can direct you to some good posts.. and there will be plently more coming. I' ve noticed over the past few days some really great topics followed by some in-depth posts.

If it' s motivation you want, you just found it. I have gotten a ton of motivation myself from meeting other members on this board (virtually). It' s nice to connect with like-minded individuals who can share some experience and help out. From what I' ve seen so far, I' m pleased with this message forum. Sharing information, exerience and motivating each other is exactly the purpose and goal of this forum.

If you get a chance, read the Women and Weight Training -Myths and Misconceptions. Pretty good info if you haven' t seen it. It' s also in the Female Bodybuilding Forum.

Hopefully some members will help you out. I' ll be on the lookout for " what to read, what to do, who to talk to , what to eat...i need to know it all! I want to know it all!"

For starters, you might check out FitDay.. It' s a free online diet and goal tracking tool on the web. You can even post your journal so everybody can see it (via a webpage) and sometimes that motivates you, helps you work towards a goal, and lets other critique areas that you may have overlooked. Just a thought. I did mine today and you can look at it if you click the my journal link in my signature.

All I can say is Welcome and You' ve come to the Right Place!

Thanks for the welcome.......

Ive looked at fit day before, the only problem i found with it is that some of the foodstuffs i really cant relate to....what i mean by this is that im from Australia nd we call different foods totally different names from the names you would be familiar with....it can be really confusing. But i wil have a look around the web to see if i can find something similar locally.

OK...im going to go have a read of some of these articles in this forum

Thanks again!

Try this for FitDay..

If you can' t find or relate to an item, then find the information on the item that you can relate to and enter a custom item.

There' s an option maybe 4 down from the box where you enter the item to search for. You can create a custom item and add the nutritional info, serving sizes and such. It will be available to you the next day if you have that item in a drop-down type box.

At the moment, the protein shakes I' m taking are not listed. So I got out the jug, created a custom item and now it' s correct and available for my use.

Hopefully you don' t have a ton of foods that you can' t relate to and if that is the case, you can just create one-off custom items.

I almost gave up when I couldn' t add my protein shake. Till I saw the custom option and that worked great.

I did go back and check. The stuff I typed in last night at home, was available (custom foods as well) in the drop-down box. So all the typing you do, won' t be in vain.

Hopefully you won' t have to enter a ton of foods. But having the option there sure makes it quick and painless to keep track of what you are eating.

Some nice goal oriented features and activity reports.

I just never bothered with any of these type of tools before because they were not as easy or convenient. Until now. I like it so far. Let' s see how long I can be disciplined.
