I Can't evolve. - Thursday, April 23, 2009 7:38 AM ( #1 )
hi! i started going to the gym in mid february and since then i'm doubling the weight in practily every exercise i do! but the thing is, i don't notice any change in my body. i have a couple of friends, who don't do nothing during the day, but they do a couple of push ups and sit ups, and they are more evolved than i am. and it's kinda pissing me off like hell. there i am, working my ass off EVERYDAY at the gym (at weekends i don't do gym but i run and i play soccer), eating right waking up early (yes, i go to gym in the morning), i put more weight than the day before, and JESUS CHRIST... NOTHING! i'm 1,78 meters, weighting 75/74 kilos! and my abdomen is like 34/35 inches. i'm making 21 years old next month.

what am i doing wrong?

my workout schedule is

Monday: Chest, Bicep
Tuesday: Legs, Shoulders
Wednesday: Back, Tricep
Thursday: Chest, Bicep
Friday: a little Back, Tricep and sometimes Shoulders
4 Exercices each section.

I Run 30 to 40 minutes Wednesday (i do like, 300 meters at 60 % and 100 meters at 80/90%)
Have soccer practice at thursday for 2 hours
Weekends i play soccer, and sometimes run for 30 ou 20 minutes.

you are doing chest and biceps twice a week and legs once and running a lot. that's why you haven't evolved. try legs (squat) three times a week, walk 3 times per week low intensity to keep off fat, and do everything else once a week with some heavy deadlifts once a week.

nothing will make you grow more than a lot of weight sitting on your back threatening to kill you if you don't squat it. just saying.

oh and if the current amount of clean food isn't there, eat more.

It takes time. If getting bigger/in shape was that fast, we all would be looking like Arnold by now. Stick with it, Changes will happen. Best to get a few pictures every month, then compare them after 6 months. You will see changes.

You have been working out for 2 months, that would explain alot. I have been working out for about a year and am a COMPLETE beginner..it takes years. And what WD said, we would all look like arnold if it was that easy. Also why are you working chest/bi's more than legs? Look up starting strength, buy the book starting strength if possible, follow the routine, eat like a beast, come back in 4-6 months and tell us what happened.

i see your only working your legs once a week, thats def somewhere your going wrong, what kind of leg exercises are you doing when you work legs? I would reccomend 2-3 days a week for that, and whats your diet like? you may not be eating enough with all the cardio your doing

yeah i guess u guys are right! it's that i'm very ambicious about this... when i start an exercise i want always to be WAY better than the day before that i sometimes forget it! and very competitive, thats why i'm pissed of because some friends just do a couple of push ups and sit ups, and in 2 months they develop more than i, and i'm going to the gym, eating right, sleeping right, i dont smoke, i rarely drink alchool...

my diet its something like:

Oatmeal for practice
Workout
for lunch i eat some rice or spaghetti, white meat or chicken
in the afternoon i eat a piece of fruit or some diet cookies
for dinner its white meat or fish or chicken and a boiled potatoe

and sometimes before dinner i go for a run or have football practice! for exemple: tomorrow i'm running, tuesday got leg exercise so i wont do much, wednesday i'm playing soccer, thursday i got soccer practice, friday i rest my legs, saturday play soccer, and sunday it's my day off from exercises.
i'm 4 or 5 kilos overweighted. i dont do much of leg exercise because i play soccer every weekend and thursday.

about my leg exercise i do bar squats, leg press, leg extension, leg curl and soleus (4series with 12/10/8/6 reps)

I know what your saying about getting alot of cardio with soccer and running or whatever, but no cardio substitutes for lifting..so you should try and fit it in somewhere. Also eat way more.

my dad is a physician. after I pulled a lower back muscle my freshman year in football, he told me to never squat or deadlift.

..long story short, I didn't listen because I hate making excuses and now my back never gives me problems anymore all while my deadlift numbers are increasing each week. just saying.

I'm not gonna tell you to not follow the doctors orders, because I don't wanna be the cause of someone to get seriously hurt, but you need to do some research on that, because without squating, you are losing alot of potiential muscle mass.

Doctors tell you not to squat because the only encouters they have with squatters are the ones who did it wrong and got hurt.  Squatting is completely safe and great for your health if you do them right.

I agree with that, and tbh I think it is an excuse to not do legs much, but I don't wanna be the cause of an injury..

If you read my Journal you will see that I have had a wrecked back since 1982. When I started working out a little over a year ago my Doctor told me the same thing. I have been staying away from Squats for over 20 years. I decided to strengthen my back by doing tons of Rows. Once I got it pretty solid, I started doing light squats to get form and motion down. This last month I did 250Lbs squating. I told my Doctor, Hes a young guy (30), first he said thats more than I do, Then he said When your back goes out ..I told you so. I listen to my body and do not overtask my back. I worked the muscles a long time before I started squats. Squats are needed and very good to jump your Test level up. I think all Doctors tell thier patients not to do them.
You should always listen to your Doctor. Now and again, you may need a second opinion.

I don't condone you do anything against your will, but if you are making excuses to do one of the best exercises, forget "evolving."

I suggest you listen to me, Wetdawg especially, and NBS. But you will do what you wish no matter what.

Re:I Can't evolve. - Tuesday, April 28, 2009 8:40 AM ( #20 )
hey man... i got an hernia in my back at the early age of 14 or 15 because of the leg press i was doing. my coach at that time made me do that (yes... he was a complete dickhead)! i'm suffering from my back ever since... the doctor said to stop and go into treatment and i bailed... i continued playing! now i'm going to do 21 years old and my back is still a mess...

i'm not making excuses! i just dont want to be all over the same crap again so i can,2 years from now, still be at the starting point! i'm gonna do squatts, but without any weight until i figure out what's happening to me... when i was doing muay thai i did some leg exercises WITHOUT weight that totally wears me out! i'm doing that..
