Hurt finger

Today at practice, I was scrimmaging with varsity, and on a punt return I was rushing and one of the guys hit me pretty hard, he got lower than me and actually hit me in my hand/arm they were both kinda hurt but my pointer finger is the only thing I am really concerned about. It hurts to even touch anything or to bend it or put pressure on it. It isn't jammed or cut, anyone know what I should do to help it heal? And I don't wanna hear see the doctor, because if it is still bothering me monday I will talk to our doctor at school. Haha varsity sucks. JV didn't even go that well after the varsity scrimmage, since I couldn't use my right hand it was so hard to shed blockers and wrap up tackles..lucky I didn't have to tackle our 6'1" 220 lb. freshman quarterback that is amazing and I could see him going to pretty much any D1 school he wants in a few years.

take out your tampon and use it to wrap your finger up. lol jk. Ice it i guess.

nothing you can do besides ice it, give it a week and it'll be fine, till then suck it up

yea tape like two of your fingers together, thats what i use to do during practice when i hurt my finger, your gonna have more finger injuries than anything, get some medical tape, tape 2 fingers together and deal with it, its gonna feel weird but it'll get you by

unless you cant run, you still can play football. I've gotten 2 broken fingers and cracked a rib from practice. All you can do is tape it up and suck it up. Yeah getting into a 3 point stance will suck but o well. If you sit out for a broken finger your coach is going to think your a pussy and dont want to be there

Yeah I figured there wasn't much I could do about it, just sucks because its so hard to shed blockers..but yeah telling the coach is the last thing I would do.

u got hurt too huh? I was playing yesterday, went up for a pass and someone took my legs out from under me in the air fell on my upper back. Knocked the wind out of me and I heard something crack :P It hurts to inhale all the way, but heyI caught the ball. Anyway, I would rig up a splint. Popsicle stick works great. Just to make sure it wont bend as much. Then tie it to an adjacent finger and let it heal. Other then that ice it, keep it elevated above your heart as much as possible. Good luck.

That sounds pretty rough, atleast you got the catch. A popcicle stick actually sounds pretty good, that should help alot, thanks man. Maybe I should stick to JV freshman year haha, those varsity guys are pretty rough especially at 155 lb. I can't afford to be out any time though with our first game in 11 days. Also if I missed a few practices someone could step up and take my spot, it will workout though, I may talk to the trainer about it, but I just don't want the coach to find out about it.

If you can bend it, then it isn't broken. Wrap all of your fingers up before practice and games. Not around the knuckle parts. Just the parts that don't bend. Hell, you could probably even wrap a bit around your palm and the back of your hand during practice, it won't fly it games though.
