Huge Calorie Cut....
-
Wednesday, June 08, 2005 9:42 AM
I started cutting 5 weeks ago. Then I weighed 190 lbs, I'm 72inches tall(6 foot), and I was 13% BF. I train semi-hard, 6 to 7 days a week, 30-40 min weights and 20-30 min cardio. I'm not over exerting myself. I used the MS Excel spreadsheet in the sticky post of Nutrition forum to calculate my daily calorie need. And at Moderately Active I should consume 2483-2638 calories a day, so it says. So I did that for 2 weeks and dropped about 8 lbs very fast. And my BF % went down to 10.8%. I hit a plateau, and decided to cut down to 2100-2400 calories since I lost almost 10lbs....still nothing. So I cut down to 1750 to 1800 calories a day and bam! I'm steadly losing a pound a week. My BF is decreasing, the amount I lift is the same. I eat about 7-9 times a day. To me this sounds like too much of a calorie cut, I work out a lot buring about 700 calories a day in exercise. This doesn't make sense to me, but it's working. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I continue this way or increase calories?

If you re-do the excel sheet based on your current numbers is 1750 to 1800 recommended? I also watch what I lift as well. Noticible loss of strength is a clear sign that you don't have the muscle you used to. How do you look in the mirror? More ripped but the same overall muscle mass?

Yeah just re-did the sheet. I now weigh 179. I'll have to wait till later to get BF% when I can get some one to do my back and tricep. But the areas I can do myself have gone down a little since last week. For Sedentary is says 1865-1982. But I work out quit a bit, so I was looking at Moderately Active which is 2409 - 2560. Since I work out 5 - 6 days a week I was even thinking I should be in the Very Active slot. In the first 2 weeks me strenght did go down, I dropped about 5-10 lbs of weights in some of me exercises. But the past 3 weeks, strenght stayed the same. Yeah, the in the mirror I look better than I did 5 weeks ago. Same muscle, just more ripped. Abs are comming in great! Weird, this works for me, but the calculators don't seem to mean anything for me. About a year ago I tried bulking and used the calculators and it said I should eat 3463-3614 calories. I did, and in one month I started looking so fat that I got scared and gave up. I then just started eating with out tracking anything and with out forcing myself to hit the 3464+ cals.
