I have been doing the Starting Strength 3 day full body workout at home. This has been somewhat hindered by the lack of a squat rack which seriously limits how much I can squat. However, I seem to also have a problem with the flexibility of my shoulders (in fact my flexibility has never been up there with whatever level of fitness has been at various times, even when I was very active). I just can't get a comfortable grip whereby I am gripping properly rather than just a loose grip with the bar balancing on my fingers which is obviously going to be a problem when I can lift more. I have tried every variation of grip width possible and I can feel it pulling on my shoulders so the obvious answer to that is to get my shoulders more flexible - and quickly! Just wondered if anybody could please spare some advice on good exercises for this? The only one I can see mentioned on forums is shoulder dislocates as in the link below. http://www.crossfiteastside.com/2007/05/dowel-dislocates.html

Hello! I am a dancer so I know a lot about flexibility. A shoulder`s super flexibility is gained quite quickly, unlike doing splits and such. Every night before you go to bed, or when you wake up every morning, or both, stretch your shoulders by raising your elbow high in the air and gradually pushing it down. You should get it pretty quickly. For example, to stretch your right shoulder, raise your arm up and bend your elbow to where your hand is behind your head and neck. Then with your left hand, pull your elbow towards your left, and down. You should feel a stretch. Do the same for the left shoulder. Hope this helped!

LOL i would have never have thought of this to be a shoulder stretch but more of a tricep strecth... but lukily i worked out my biceps and back/shoulders today... and did that and it actually helped my shoulers a bit... btw great explaination on the stretch excercise.. i your instructions were very clear... even though i have seen this stretch done before i wouldn't have known it if you just had a name for it...(like the "splits"). - steve
