How often do you do traps? - Tuesday, July 01, 2008 7:37 PM
My body responds to trap workout very well. Personally i don't find huge traps so appealing, don't get me wrong, they look nice if you are very built but for some people they look disproportionate to the rest of an underdeveloped body.

I treat them like most other muscle groups. If I am doing a split with high volume for each muscle, then everything gets a week to recover (except abs and calves). If I am doing low volume full body training then I train them every time I go to the gym, if I am squatting and not deadlifting that day I will do shrugs. If I deadlift, then my traps get all they need.
A healthy body is a guest chamber for the soul: a sick body is a prison.

Usually when I get to the top of my deadlift I'll do a reverse-grip curl.

Every time I do deadlifts, shrugs, barbell curls, etc, basically they get worked when I lift something off the ground. Traps are probably some of the few muscles I can see flexed well on my back...

Traps get worked in lots of exercises but they're always sore after days when I do cleans and snatches.

Ah, had no idea deadlifts worked on traps. Perhaps that is why mine are growing at such an alarming speed, any bigger and i will look like a pencil, perhaps i should lay off the shrugs and limit it to once a month.

And yes I understand you guys workout your traps at your designated shrug/deadlift/shoulder day, what I meant was do you limit the amount you work them out since bodies tend to respond well to the workout. Or maybe its just me.

It could just be your genetics.

I find that deadlifts, cleans and snatchs work your traps just fine. I would avoid any isolations like shrugs if your really that bothered about them...but there going to get worked regardless because of those other big exercises.

Guy looks like a linebacker. Nothing wrong with that. I love that sloped look from traps up to the ears. I hate guys with shoulders that go strait across.

I'm with the OP. My traps grow at an alarming rate so I don't do any direct work but you can't help them getting hit just the same.

He's all traps, there's no shoulder either side. I don't usually criticize other mens physiques but he is totally unbalanced. His shoulders are too narrow for his trap height.

I think what you're seeing has to do with the angle of the picture. His head isn't strait on with his body so he looks narrower than he is.
