How high - Wednesday, June 25, 2008 6:18 AM
How high is a "standard" olymic bar off the floor, when loaded with... crap, how do I word this, standard plates; what is it 25lbs, as the smallest regular diameter plates?

Since I have a wussy bar, and wussy plates, I have (past couple times), raised my start position for power cleans, since it is my understanding that they should start from the standard hight.

My 25lb plates are not as big (diameter), so I have been setting the bar up a couple inches, on 10 lb plates, (this inch or two has helped my form greatly) but I should probably meausure, to make sure I am at the proper start point.

Do you have 45 lb. plates?  If so, figure out the height the bar is off the ground with those, and then use shims to rest your bar with the 25 lb. plates on.

I did a search for the actual height, but I couldn't find anything.

Nah, I don't nor do I think the height would be the same with my 1" bar.

I have a vauge memory of hearing 17" (to I think the top of the plate, because that sure as hell can't be the center), but I am not sure at all.
