Hi everybody. I just purchased some micronized creatine monohydrate. How long should I take it before taking a break from the stuff? Thanks.

There is no need to cycle creatine use.

I read this is at http://www.bla.net/opul/crfaq.htm : " Once you plateau, your muscle cells will probably be saturated with creatine and since the body loses about 1-2% creatine a day you should be able to get away with cycling on and off creatine to lengthen your results. Once you stop creatine supplementation and your body clears it 100% (about 2 month process) you' ll probably be back at your old strength and muscle mass levels. Of course the gains in mental ability (I' ve done this beore I can do it now) and tendon/skeletal strength increase resulting from these heavier workouts will remain. " :0( I don' t like the sound of that, especially the part about going back down to original mass. Please...say it ain' t so! I also read on the page that caffeine reduces the effects of creatine intake, due to the fact the creatine makes your muscles hold water while caffeine does the opposite. Now, I get next to no caffeine from my diet. The only sodas I drink are diet and caffeine free. I will ocassionally have cup of de-caf green tea, but that is it. However, I do use thermogenic supplements as energy boosters before certain activities. I want to get the most out of my creatine, but I don' t want to stop using the thermogenics. Do you think I am going to have a problem here? Of course, I drink lots of water. I' m in the bathroom every 45 minutes, it seems. Thanks for help and have a nice day.

" Once you plateau, your muscle cells will probably be saturated with creatine and since the body loses about 1-2% creatine a day you should be able to get away with cycling on and off creatine to lengthen your results" No this isn' t really true. Firstly, the whole purpose of the " loading Phase" is to saturate muscle cells with creatine, so you would have reached a plateau after the first week. " you' ll probably be back at your old strength and muscle mass levels." This depends on how long you' ve been using creatine. If its only been a few weeks, then probably, the initial weight gains are from water. However, over time muscle tissue is grow and at an accelerated rate. So if you use it for 4-6 months and stop, you' ll still see some weight loss and size due to the extra water loss, but the muscle tissue is still there, it just isn' t as " full" . Loss in strength should really be minimal if any. There will be some once you' re body has returned to its normal level, but even then its not much. The extra water adds leverage which helps to lift heavier, but its not so much that you' ll be weaker. Caffeine doesn' t nullify the effects of creatine in any way. Caffeine doesn' t draw water out of your muscle cells. And even if it did, its not going to draw the creatine out of the muscle cell. And as long as there is creatine in the cell, it will continue to draw water inside. If you' re drinking enough water(And i would suggest adding salt to your food) then theres really no way that would happen. So don' t worry about you' re thermogenics or the couple of sodas you drink. P.S. That article is from ' 96. We' ve learned ALOT since then. Creatine is pretty much a fool-proof supplement. You take, you get stronger, you grow more muscle, period.
