How to gain 30lbs of LBM in a month - Sunday, August 17, 2008 5:50 PM ( #1 )
I'm including HST principles to my routine, but I have some doubts, so please clear them out

this is what i'm doing (everything done like powerlifting)

Front Squat 4x5
Chinups 4x5
Bench press 4x5
Push press 4x5
4 sets of bi's,tri's and calves

I'm increasing 5lbs every workout if I can

so is this how HST is supposed to be? lol

Note: nice thread title huh? lol

Why front squats? They dont provide as much over-all muscle and strength development as back squats do. You also need more back work then just chin-ups. Why not go on starting strength?

deadlifts, dont forget them. rowing too.

hst is pretty simple: you find your 15, 10, and 5 rep maxes, plan out each set of reps for 2 weeks or so, so that oy hit your maxes at the end of the time length you choose...keep going if u can, or then add weight and decrease to 10 reps, etc. then 5 when you cannot keep adding and get 10 reps.

the main idea is to continuing progressing in weight...so u keep adding weight and decreasing reps by about 5 once you cannot hit the goal rep range.

rather than worry about bis and tris, i would do something like adding rowing
and dips which would cove bis and tris too. i would alternate back squats in as well. deadlifts are a must.

for example.
squats/front squats 2X15
deadlifts: 1-2 X15
bench/incline 2X15
rows 2X15
ohp/push press 2X15
pullups - choose amount total to do and increase
dips - choose an intial amount and add, unless you can do weighted 15 reps and add weight each time
isolations if u want to, calves perhaps, or abs

with higher reps like 15 i wouldnt do 4 sets, that will kill u. i did 3 sets and it took a big toll by the end of the round.

as you get to 5 reps you can go to 3 sets, or on 10 if u want to as well

hope that made sense
bulking/strength training

soon to begin bill starr's 5X5

current maxes:
squats: 255
deadlifts: 300
bench: 185
oh press: 125
goals for jan 1:
squats: 300
deadlifts: 350
bench: 210
oh pressL 145

I've been doing back squats for too long, wanted to change a bit so I did

So you say deadlift every workout?

According to HST how many sets should I be doing per muscle group?
