How long is the bulking process? - Tuesday, April 07, 2009 6:52 AM ( #1 )
I have been bulking for the past 3 months. All of my maxes have increased by alot and i have gained about 10 pounds of muscle. However, I feel I am starting to gain fat around my waist and I would like to look good for the summer. I dont perform any long distance cardio. I normally sprint and do plyos one day a week. I was just wondering if i should cut down now or keep bulking and ignore the fat gain.

Its really all personal opinion in my eyes.
If you want to avoid too much fat gain, then just clean up your diet a little, the gains will come slower but you'll they will be more quality gains.
Like i said i believe it is all opinion, but if you think you have gained to much "extra" then you could slowly start going the other way and cutting. If not, then bulk away and keep in mind that the more muscle you have the more calories you burn (50 calories per day per additional pound of muscle), which means it will be easier to cut later when you have more muscle.
No food tastes as good as looking good Feels.

I wrestle so i have to cut when the season starts regardless. I am trying to put on as much weight as i can in the off season so i can be strong at a higher weight instead of just being fat. I think my diet is pretty good but could probably use improvement. I get plenty of protein but i may be getting too many carbs....I will also admit i smoke pot so i do eat alot (munchies). That may be one of the reasons for the fat gain.

when you bulk its normal to gain some fat but to minimise fat gain do clean bulking and usualy once to start to cut you lose most of the fat anyways

Bulk until you reach your individual limit to the amount of fat you want, which essentially means that if you're 10% bodyfat, make a goal "I will bulk until I reach 16% bodyfat, then cut down to 9%", that's how long you should bulk, don't put a time limit on it, don't let lifts dictate it. Simply let bodyfat tell you when it's time to lose weight.
