How is this possible? - Wednesday, August 13, 2008 2:35 PM ( #1 )
So I was checking my power clean video thread, and I saw that 3 guests were in my thread as well.

But, it is a private area, I know when I tried to peak in with out login in I was denied access?

Were they mods or admins or something?

I don't actually care, whether it is private or not, I just didn't understand how that was possible.

I though you might like to know, if it was something other than a couple of you guys floating around at the same time.

One more thing, I accidentally while trying to edit a post in my journal marked my own post as "helpful" . It's probaly not a good idea to let a user mark their own posts as "helpful". And I can't seen to get rid of it either, it certainly wasn't a helpful; post, for any one.

Did it used to be a private area? I'm not sure on all the settings Marc had for every forum we have... I changed a lot of settings with the upgrade so things that may have been private before are no longer private. I can put the forum back to where guests can't view it... but right now guests can view threads in that forum.

I'll bring up the post helpful thing with the developer and see what he has to say.

Looks like Marc had that forum as private before. I changed it so guests no longer have access. They can see the forum topics... but if they click on one they can't actually read what is inside the thread.

Fascinating... Yea it still says members only, and right after the switch I tried to go in with out login in I and I was blocked, but not now. It must have been in the in between when you were changing things.

i don't really care one way or the other private or open. If it was a bug or something I just thought you would want to know.

Yea... it was me changing things around and not knowing/remembering how Marc had everything setup.

Guests don't need access to those sections... it's members only.

I told the developer it's best if a person can not mark their own post as helpful and it would also be nice if a user could retract their post helpful status in case they did it by mistake. I'll let you know what he says.

Ok... so I checked with the dev and this is what he said:

only the admins/mods/thread starter can mark posts as helpful. And itis still reasonable to mark your own post as helpful because it ispossible that you find the answer to your own question after awhile andyou wish to share with others.

I'm still checking with him to see about adding a feature where we can remove the helpful post status in case we marked that post as helpful by accident.

Jane - sometimes it's on the second page since there are less threads per page now.
