How does this look? - Thursday, July 17, 2008 11:27 AM ( #1 )
Full body alternating 3x a week between A and B. Reps vary from 6-10

Day A:
Squats x 4
Military Press x 4
Flat Barbell Bench Press x 4
Bent over Barbell rows x 4
SUPERSET:
Barbell Curls x 3
Tricep Ext x 3
Then Crunches 30x2

Day B:
Deadlift x 4
Incline DB Press x 4
Seated Arnold Press x 4
Wide Grip pulls ups x 4
SUPERSET:
Bicep Curls x 3
Close Grip Bench x 3
Then Legraises 30x2

I follow this mon, wed, fri and on two of my off days (preferably after deadlift day, I mountain bike for 2 hours)

I'm skinny fat currently but not because I am a beginner, just because the past three months my intensity sucked so I gained about 5lb's of fat on my stomach. I was on a split for a year of my training, but now have a home gym with only a bench, rack, barbells and dumbells.

32 inch waist
5'8
154lb

Building for pure mass.

It looks like a bit too much to me honestly, but overall it looks like a solid routine.  You've got all the important lifts in there, but 4 sets of all that stuff seems like a bit too much to be able to recover from.  If it were me I'd do this:

Day A:
Squats x 3
Flat Barbell Bench Press x 3
Bent over Barbell rows x 3
SUPERSET:
Barbell Curls x 2
Tricep Ext x 2

Then Crunches 3 x 10 weighted

Day B:
Deadlift x 2 (after doing some warmup sets with lighter weight)
OH barbell press standing x 3
Wide Grip pulls ups x 3
SUPERSET:
Bicep Curls x 2
skull crushers x 2

Then Legraises 3 x 10 on a decline bench, possibly weighted

The stuff in bold I honestly don't think is necessary, but if you really feel the need to do arm isolation work then go for it.

Well I guess it depends on if his plan is to continue to add weight to all his lifts every single workout, which would require a great deal of recovery once the weight starts getting up there.  But if he plans on just lifting moderately, and increase weight every so often, then I would agree, and I'd say that it's not too much volume.

i dont think that you need to be doing curls 3 times a week, maybe just do them one day and two at the most.  other than that it looks good to me

Do you keep the weights the same during the whole workout or does it vary along with the sets?

What you should keep in mind is how you are going to add weights to the lifts every workout. Have you planned how you are going to do that?
