How do you take your BCAAs - Sunday, August 16, 2009 2:44 PM ( #1 )
Im taking BCAAs and L-Glutamine both powders and im trying different ways to mix them. I like it with milk but im currently trying to lean out while gaining alittle muscle so milk all day is a no go. Tryed it with water and almost hurled. So far the best way I have found is to take it like an alcoholic lol. Small amount of koolaid in a glass with the BCAA and L-Glutamine powder and slam it like a shot then chase it with water. Dont taste a thing!!!

MMM i would do very well at your method >.<
I currently have a whey protein that has L-glutamine as well as 2 BCAAs in it. Not sure if your willing to spend $30 on a 5lb tub. Tastes good to. However, the amount of L-glutamine and BCAAs in it arent very potent.

Do you also drink protein shakes?  My BCAAs are in there.  Don't know whether they just come from the proteins in it or fortify it w/more.  You could mix it in if they are not already in there.  I've mixed the glutamine in fat-free cottage cheese.  Don't know whether that fits your "no milk" though.  Good workin' out!

The reason I take the powders is I wake up at 4am and im in the gym by 4:30am so I really need to stay anabolic all the time. I eat cottage cheese before bed due to the slow release of protines. Yea the protine shakes seem to have just small amounts in them. Im currently not taking any shakes just trying to eat as much clean protine as possible through the day.

Mixes real good with chocolate milk lol but again im trying to lean out. I just started training but I want to loose my body fat before I try to get big. and I hate skim milk....

Heard orange juice is good but im not big on oj either.

You should definitely be taking some sort of fast absorbed protein post-workout, especially when trying to thin out.

But that is not the question you asked. So to try and answer that, mix it with something other than liquid. Stick some of it in some tuna fish with mayo etc. Not sure if it will taste good at all, seeing as how ive never tried it. mix it with a strong seasoning garlic, fennel, stick it in some sort of food.

I really don't think there is a set amount you need. However I think i am soon going to try experimenting and take quite a bit like these http://www.ironaddicts....11023&highlight=bcaa guys and see if i notice any improvements although I think those guys over do it a little bit as i've seen them mention needing 2-3 grams/lb of bodyweight of protein per day. I'm not 250+ pounds like some of those guys claim to be so im going to try to aim for 40-50 then another 100-125 grams from food and my regular protein shakes. Unforutnately BCAA's are expensive so it is going to be a while.

PK,
Aren't all of them in any animal protein?  Is there a translation for how many would be in each kind of meat, say, or in a gram of protein?  It looks like they're valine, leucine, and isoleucine, correct?  Are those 3 boys in all the real food protein consumed too?  Thx!

Yes those are the 3 amino acids and whey protein actually has the most BCAAs in it as it's pretty much the highest protein source. I can't tell you how much is in foods but i'm willing to bet it isn't significant. I just checked my ON whey and it contained 1-2 grams of all 3 per serving; not much in my opinion to say the least when I know i read somewhere that leucines dietary requirement should be up to 12 grams daily for certain people.

Well how important are BCAAs in high dosage?  Should I add them to my stack or is it just icing on the cake?  Sounds expensive.  What would a recommended daily dose be?  Thx!

There not that expensive. I purchased a months supply of BCAAs and L-Glutamine powder for $30 from vitamine shoppee. The same was over $60 at gnc. Buy it in powders dont buy pills. Its way more expensive and there slow absorbed. Yes the BCAAs combined makes L-Glutamine in your body but its not enough so its good to add about 10g a day. L-Glutamine is the main anti-catabolic agent we need. I do 5g pre and 5g post. And im currently taking 15g of BCAAs daily 5g pre 5g post and 5g before bed.
