How do you feel about pork rinds? - Friday, August 14, 2009 2:55 PM ( #1 )
I know they're processed but the nutrition facts are:

Cals: 80
Fat:   5g
Carb: 0g
Prot:  8g

A quick snack of these, 2 servings, is 160 cals and 16g of protein.  What do you guys think about these?

And, at $1.79 a bag, which contains about 6 servings, its very cheap.

Has a lot of sodium. That could be a problem depending upon how much you eat.

Guys, I think you're missing something with the pork rinds.  I was pounding them down, and wondering why it says something strange in the Nutrition Facts about it not being a good source of protein.  Apparently it's technically protein, but not the kind your body can process or use.  You guys are more expert than me.  Check it out and see what I'm talking about.  They taste good but are not good for you.

I used to pig out on pork rinds, as my excuse was "I'm on keto."

Pork rinds are horrible and nasty as balls. If you want pork, eat bacon.

This from Wikipedia regarding pork rinds:

the quality of the protein in pork rinds, called hydrolyzed gelatin protein, is quite low. Because they have a protein efficiency ratio lower than 40% as dictated by the FDA, their nutrition label usually states "0%" in % Daily Value or "Not a significant source of protein" as recommended by the FDA

but it also looks like they ARE considered a good snack on several other sites, if you can handle the high fat and sodium in your diet.
