How can I have more energy for the gym?? - Tuesday, July 14, 2009 9:23 PM ( #1 )
I haven't felt too motivated lately, but I feel like I need 2 get back in the gym. I feel like I dont have enough energy and that i'm too tired 2 workout, and when I do lift my workouts dont seem to be a energy filled as i'd like. I don't want 2 take caffeine because that seems like just a short term solution. any advice is appreciated.

Look at women you could potentially be with for a boost.

Eat a lot of carbs before you go. Go to the beach and see the guys that are huge and shredded and realize that you aren't. That always kick starts me.

LOL >> Perry is right.

Motivation wise just watch some lifting videos on the gym; or listen to muscle that gets you pumped.

Sounds like your glycogen levels could be low on the other hand.

Eat about 0.5g of carbohydrates per every kg of bodyweight every 2 hours, studies have shown that helps with energy.

Those things do get me motivated at the time, but then once i'm back home I lose the drive to go to the gym.

take a nap

B complex vitamins

balanced meal before lifting

caffeine is fine and will help as long as you dont over due it. get some flavored insta coffe and mix it in with your 30min pre-WO shake. (what I do)

how is your sleep and eating habits? those are big players in your energy levels. Motivation is huge too, but if its yoru energy I would check some of those.

Yah, I love the feeling after I get done at the gym. I guess I just need to force myself. The problem with increasing carb intake is im trying to cut so I dont want too much carbs.

I chug down two tablespoons of honey 30 minutes before I workout. Helps me a lot in terms of energy during the workout.

Take MVP's advice and get plenty of good carbs before a training session, fruit and a bowl of oatmeal is what I use, you will be surprised by what it does for you.

Middle Eastern and Italian coffee is strong, according to what I read and how I feel after a cup. I take mine bitter and foul tasting, on important days, I dump a load of grinds into a mug, many more grinds than I need. Never boil coffee. I'm probably going to take a break so the caffeine does not lose its touch.

Music and videos can work you up, keep the media in your head and its there any time you want it.

I have plenty slow days, but if you still get up when you are tired and focus on waking up, you will be ready in 45Mins-1hour. Includes, but not limited to: Blasting loud bass, eating breakfast, warming up the nerves, some Romanian deadlifts to fire up the CNS, watching people fight, Imagining armies of 8' tall cyborgs screaming execute, etc.

It will work, or I'm done dieting.

Energy comes from food intake

Depending on what you eat, you will have different level of energy.

Eat better and you'll see a difference.

I usually eat every 2 hours or so and I feel strong on my lifts !

Since you're cutting, i.e. not eating a ton of carbs, it's natural that your energy in the gym will suffer.  I find that stimulants are very useful for low-carb resistance training.  Coffee works all right.  Genera Adrenaline is a pretty good product too.  I wouldn't recommend using stims all the time, but during a cut they can really help.

Also, unless you're on a ketogenic diet or something, don't be afraid to have some preworkout carbs.
