Exactly. Pre workout, the best carb to have is a fibrous (oats) or starchy (potato/yam) carb. Have the fibrous carb about 1-2hrs before, or if you chose the starchy route, you can have it a little closer to the workout time. Try to be close to hungry when you lift, not completely empty, but empty enough where you're not in pain and when its time for the post workout shake, you're hungry (faster gastric emptying).
