Hi, Although I have joined a gym, I might consider investing in home gym stuffs in the future, any recommendations on the prioritis while buying equipments? Barbell or Dumbbell first? Benches? Racks?

Hummm... My thoughts would be: Dumbbells because they are versatile. And you can mimic any barbell exercise. Plus given the fact that you said (or I believe I saw that post by you) about your body being stronger on some sides then the other, dumbbells would give you the option to concentrate on the weaker side. Then you'll need a bench. Chest is a BIGGIE. No bench, no presses. Then a rack for squats. That will get you to the barbell stage. Because if you are going to workout at home, great. Just do not neglect the legs. And there's no better overall body or leg exercise then the squats. That would be my order of priority.

Great, thanks kiwlm i was about to ask the same question :). Any particular company you reccomend to get these weights/benches/barbells/dumbbells? Stores? A rack for squats? Last time i checked a rack was for holding the weights. What's good for that as well? I also need the bar for holding the weights for doing curls. Thanks a lot.

After pointed out by someone, then only I realized about the squat rack, half of it is a normal rack for the barbells, and half of it, have a platform around waist height. I would guess the waist height platform is for you to back out when you perform to failure, can just sit down and the barbells will be held by the platform. Not really sure if you can understand from what I have described here! Hmmm, I was quite interested about brands suggestion also, but wonder if those posts can get into this forum?

I personally use gym type equipment which is a bit pricey for the home user. I'm not sure I understand your question about if the posts can get into this forum. They sure can if you post them.

Hmmm, I was quite interested about brands suggestion also, but wonder if those posts can get into this forum? Well, I just bought myself a Powertec Workbench Rack System, to add to the dumbell set and EZ curl bar that I had bought when I first started. It's a bit pricy (and the bar and weights aren't included), but it seems to be a very well made piece of equipment, works very well for all the bench exercises and squats I've done so far, and it looks so good that just looking at it makes me want to work out. One of the main reasons I went with this one is that I work out alone, and so I really wanted to get a bench with safety spotters, which this model has (and they're nice and easy to adjust between exercises). The big problem with it is that it's pretty big (which is going to be the problem with all of your rack or cage setups), it takes up a whole room in my house, which won't make my mom too happy next time she comes to visit, as that room is where I let her set up all of her sewing and embroidery stuff.
