Hi - Tuesday, August 04, 2009 3:12 PM ( #1 )
Well, I'm 14; I don't know if that's generally accepted. My main goal is barely even thought out, and I want to make better of it. I am a thin (underaverage) kid from the US. Basically my parents are on major diets (won't risk buying anything fat), and I don't know what to do. I tried today some excercises I read from here, but I tired quickly. Any tips?

Just read up, browse the forums and pick up some good books on lifting. I suggest Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. While I don't agree with everything he says, most of it is widely accepted.

As Puma said, study the forum both the exercise and diet as both are very important, and do a little reading outside the forum. Decide what your goals are and what is the best way to achieve them. If you have questions someone here can likely answer. Good Luck.

Hello solo1 welcome to the boards. :)

Im 13 as you can tell, by my username (why i picked that makes me wonder too). We have a whole section dedicated to teenage bodybuilding. Connelly is a genius of the boards and hes only 14. So I'm sure you'll fit in.

Well first since you said you are underweight (i'm right there with ya) you gotta start bulking. Now a general rule for bulking is you need to consume more calories than you burn. So that means eat, eat, eat! But if you only eat and dont lift, do cardio, or do simple bodyweight exercises, then it will most likely go on as fat, and not muscle.

Do you have any weight lifting equipment? If so, get right to it. If not and you are really looking to stay commited then I'd suggest you get some. Don't go spend a 1000 dollars on some sh!tty bowflex or nothing. All you need is a Bench, A barbell, and some simple weight plates. Heck, go to craigslist.org. Thats where i got all mine from for 100 bucks for 2 benches and over 150lb-200lb set...which for me is what i need. If not and you got a local gym, go there.

But if not theres always simple bodyweight exercises. Pushups, situps, pullups, are always a great option. And with many of these theres tons of variations.

A general rule is to bulk up first and cut later.

And, if you are really looking to get into it, theres always supplements. A multivitamin, fish oils, whey protein/creatine and you'll be good to go. 15 bucks at wallmart for a big container of whey or creatine. These are all LEGAL. Do not take steroids though. Plain and simple it is cheating. IMO, people who use steroids dont even deserve the bodies they want.

But like previous responses have said is to research and then get right into it and work out. DBB is a great place with lots of knowlegable guys on these forums. We got it all. Starting an online training journal helps keep me motivated. But anyways, Good luck!

Welcome aboard.

I love when younger people come here, it reminds me of the results and knowledge I could have right now if I had started young.
