Help with Re-entry after Injury - Friday, March 30, 2007 9:57 AM ( #1 )
Hello,
I've been lifting for over 2 years and was on the Max-OT program. About 4 weeks ago, I was squatting my "usual" weight of around 175# and my back slipped.
I've had problems with my back before but I felt comfortable with what I was doing with Max-OT.
Anyhoo, I got a scan and have 3 slipped discs but nothing horrible. Bed rest and no exercise for 5 weeks -- going CRAZY.

Now it's time to get back to the gym. I know that I cannot pick up where I left off! And squatting with weights is out for a while.
What can I do as a "low risk" lower body workout? I'm also a bit afraid to do Straight-legged Deadlifts because of the bend at the hip. But what can I do for the hamstrings -- I hate the Laying Curl machine!!!

I also was running HIITs 3x week, which is also out. So I guess I'll have to stick with the stationary bike and the elliptical?

I stayed stable as for my weight -- thank goodness.

I would so appreciate it if anyone has any ideas about this. I am also upping my core work to harden my support muscles even more than they are now.

Thanks Ladies and Gents! I really am anxious to regain my strength.
Best to you all,
Dedene

Hi,
I sorry to hear of your injury and hope u a speedy recovery.I love the gym and can only imagine what you must be going thru. I started at the gym about a year and a half ago and i am there all the time. I was hoping to compete my first time this summer, But due to me not staying on my diet, my trainer called me off[&o]. Oh well, maybe nexy year. The fact that you are doing what you can is commendable. I wish I could offer you some advise, But , im so new to it all. I dare not. My name is Tam. Nice to meet you.....................

Focus on rehab and conditioning for now.  Use supportive machines for leg workouts and remember that if you piss off your back more......you wait more.  Look into some glutamine and joint ****tail type of supps such as msm, chondroitin, glucosamine etc.
I am so sorry to hear of this and was squinting as I read on.....
I hope for a speedy recovery for you!
Linda
