Help for friend - Friday, August 15, 2003 3:34 PM ( #1 )
I was wondering if of you ladies can offer me some advice on a work out routine for my friend. She is under the misconception that if she works out with weights she is going to bulk up like the she hulk. She mainly does cardio, abs, and some light weights with the leg machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After thought her goals seem to be slim the hips and tummy and all around firmness.

Thanks J

Have you printed her the post:

Women & Weight Training, Myths and Misconceptions

And what's her nutrition like. Is she eating a lot to burn food.. or trying to eat as little as possible as she doesn't want to gain any weight?

No I haven't printed that out and from what I can see her diet has gone down the toilet from what it used to be.

Okay..

Then 2 things you can do as a friend

1) Print that out. Hand it to her. Ask her just please read this. My sister also had the same misconception. I touch a weight.. I'll get huge.. Please.. I touch them all the time.. I'm not huge. So it's a myth as the article implies. A VERY common misconception as it has been a male dominated activity. There's nothing more you can do other then ask her to read it..

2) Burn the Fat is an excellent e-book (well at least my limited up to Chapter 2 experience). It also goes over step-by-step the common misconceptions about eating and diets. I just finished the chapter on diets don't work. And it confirmed that eating more you'll actually lose weight.

Burn the Fat Thread

My Eagle101st used to eat 1327 calories a day.. for a MALE! That's crazy. Leslie set him straight and so did I. He's eating 2000 on average.. hungry now.. eating good.. losing weight that he couldn't lose on 1327. You tell me.

After that, it's up to her to read the materials you present. They are simple as hell, no bs, straight forward. If she won't follow them.. there's nothing more you can do.

P.S.-- I'm not implying your friend is fat in any way. I'm not fat and I'm getting a ton out of this book. It's basically a good foundation for nutrition, how to eat right, eat more.. eat this, do that, don't do this.. It's about gaining lean muscle and losing excess body fat. You don't have to be fat to benefit 100% from this book. I'm only on Chapter 2 but I'm totally liking it. Easy read.

I have been trying for 5 years to get big muscles. It just doesn't happen, esp overnight. Lifting weights will help her get tighter, toner and more shapely. Unless you are using anabolic steriods, as a women, it will be unlikely to get beastly.

Thanks for the all of the responses.
Now just trying to get her to sit down and read it is the hard part.
