Help Feeding New Routine - Sunday, February 15, 2009 5:24 AM ( #1 )
Hi Folks,

I'm new to the boards. I'm 40, 6-2, 208 and I started a pretty vigorous 8 x 8 or "German Volume Training" routine about 3-4 weeks ago. I want to make sure I feed this workout correctly to get the best results.

My goals are simple: Gain lean muscle mass while burning fat. I'm NOT bulking. I feel like I've been "stuck" for a while at the same muscle levels and I just can't seem to get rid of some stubborn fat in the midsection. This routine, after 3 weeksish, is showing promise. That said, I need to make sure I'm eating right.

Here's an average day for me...and understand, I'm a working professional who unfortunatley must get up, sit in a car for an hour, sit at a desk, then commute home again.

* 8 AM: Banana, Oatmeal, 2 amplified creatine pills
* 10 AM: 4 slices of roast beef wrapped in cheese...maybe a yogurt with fruit/nuts...depends on appetite
* 11 AM: Workout at gym downstairs in building
* 12 - 1 PM: Chicken Salad of some kind (6 oz chicken) with beans/veggies; 1.5 scoops of Wheybolic Protien
* 4 PM: 4 slices of roast beef wrapped in cheese; Apple
* 7 PM: Dinner; 8 oz of chicken/beef. Veggies if I can find.
* 9 PM: Cup of mixed nuts or slice of whole wheat bread with peanut butter; (Hopefully NO weakness...chips or ice cream here)

This usually gets me around 3000 total calories and 200 g of protien. To be honest, it has seemed very difficult to get to these levels...just don't feel that hungry.

How does this look?

Change anything?

Thanks.
KY

Been working out most of my life, not serious bodybuilding, but working out.

Probably brought my effort to a new level about 10 years ago. At 30, I was 225-230 and my workout sucked. Went on a serious keto/Atkins diet and went all the way down to 180-185. From there I pretty much built up more solidly.

Now at 205 and at 40, I want to bring it to the next level.

Any feedback here?

Having  a hard time crossing 3000 calories. It's like I need to force feed a small meal at 9 PM to get there.

Not sure I need that much. Did one of those calculators and it indicated I needed about 2500 calories which would be about right.

Maybe my metabolism at 40 is just not what it used to be. Would be interested in hearing what others my age are up to in diet to gain lean muscle but not bulk...keep that fat off.

Thanks.
