yes!! my father is one of them. he was in the Korean war. he got hit with particles of a bomb all through out his body. his whole life he's been in and out of the hospital due to infections. its a long story on top of that. i truely understand what people go through and the damage that it has done. my brother in laws, brother is in the marines right now. he was supposed to come home this week to visit. but due to the killing w/ the ceo and the other person that died. they're holding him there. they think its an inside thing. it was on the news last week. so needless to say they are very worried. but he is okay. he got to call home and let our family know what was going on.

I've never seen war myself, my mom's uncle was in WW2 and he was the gunman in the planes...he saw so many of his friends die... the gunman was in the "****pit" at the bottom of the plane, you know the glass ****pit with a 360degree view...anyways..he told me the story once and after 5 minutes he was crying...he left and never talked about it again... I've seen so many picture of Hiroshima... War is just stupid...anyways. I wish I could turn back time and change things but I can't...

My grandad died before i was born, but he fought in WW2, my mum said he used to be really jolly and when he came back he hardly ever spoke and started screaming randomly and breaking down, he died a little soon after WW2. War scares me a lot, the idea of having a load of people on the opposite side of land all pointing guns at me and my friends is something i do not really wish to think about due to it making me feel sick. War is a terrible thing, but i am extremely grateful for it in some ways. It has stopped tyranny, and the brave people who used there lives to protect ours should NEVER be forgotten, there bravery is the highest form of bravery any human can do.

I've had family that had that type of breakdown Twistedlink was talking about. They would always sleep with the lights on and get shaken if they hear a loud noise.

No I've never seen first hand the effects of war. I wonder if war is ever a real answer at all.

I have. My great uncle, who had the most promise in the family at the time, came back from Korea without: a right hand, a couple of fingers on the left, much hearing, and sight. Luckily for us, he was still a cheerful guy, and smart as a whip. One of my favorite relatives. The worst part about the whole thing is that he got his injuries while demonstrating how one throws a grenade. The story has two versions: One is that he was handed a live grenade instead of a dead one for demonstration purposes, or he had a live one which was defective and exploded as soon as the pin was pulled. Yes, it blew up in his hand in front of his face. I think war is stupid. How much richer would my uncle's life have been, and ours, if he wasn't so seriously injured? There are times when it's necessary, but it should not be treated lightly. Every casualty and injury, whether civilian or military, us or "them," should be considered a failure of our leaders (and ourselves) to avoid war.

this might be a really bad comparison or a really good one but back in the day i had a kid bully me. i did nothing to provoke it. he did the standard stuff. threatened me, knocked my books out of my hands, tried to steal my lunch and alot of other things. he was really ruining the quality of my life. it tried to reason with him and talk to him but nothing worked. so one day i went into a blind rage and beat the fu>k out of him. the kid never bothered me again. it seemed like he was a different person after that. i can guarentee he never bullied anyone ever again. if i would have lost, and the bulling continued, than i would have fought back again. whats the point of living if you cant live your own life. i would have died trying. war is not unaviodable. dont blame war. blame the people who make war have to start. blame the bully.

Think about how many other lives are richer due to the sacrifices people like your great uncle gave. Without these people, our lives could be very different from what it is today. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with war. But unfortunately, sometimes it is necessary.

Yes. I have had many family and friends serve in the military ranging from WWII to present day. Many of my best friends from high school are overseas now. I am proud of them all and pray for their safety everyday.

Both of my grandfathers were in WWII. My Dad's dad brought home a Japanese rifle that he took from someone that he killed. My mother's dad was in the 42nd -the Rainbow Division, and was in Dachau on April 29, 1945. He saw firsthand 40 or so railway cattle cars stacked with thousands of bodies, and everything else that was going on in that camp. I have two friends that still have emotional problems stemming from Vietnam, and my Boy Scout troop leader lost part of his thumb in that war.

My grandfather was in WW2 and he hardly ever talks about it. He saw a lot of the people in his platoon die, and he tells me how lucky he was because he was never shot, and never got hit with anything. He told me that he was manning a morter once with a guy in his platoon and he went to go tell their Lt. something and when he came back the place where his buddy was was blown up and under German fire.

Yes I have. The first time I was here in Iraq, we were flying in from Kuwait City and the helicopter that was transporting us took heavy fire a few miles into the boarder. Let’s just say that the guy that was setting right next to me wasn’t as lucky as I was. He was one of my best friends and let me tell you I still have nightmares about it!! Now don’t ask me why I re-enlisted or why I agreed to come back to this hell on earth, but for some reason I feel that this will help me feel less guilty in some why.

I would say that I am fortunate to have not witnessed war. The closest I came to being part of the military was the draft. I was standing in the Pasadena, Ca. post office on my 18th b-day, along with 200 other young men. As they called your name a number was picked and called out with your name. The lower the number the higher the chance of going to nam. 10 or lower was going for shure. My number was 300 and something. The guy next to me was number 10.... As far as killing and blood shed goes, I have worked ERs in some of the most gang ridden places in So. Cal and have seen my share of stab wounds, bullet holes, body parts shredded by gunshot, and heads cracked open from bottles. Senseless! After awhile, unfortunately it becomes routine and you can get hard to it. Maybe you have to get hard to keep going? My heart sure goes out to our men and women over seas fighting.....and dying. of

i was in the first war in iraq.i saw first hand how a tyrant rules with fear and no respect for his fellow man. we took 2300 prisoners in two days and most of them gave up without one shot. the few that did fight it didnt last that long. in a way i felt sorry for them,to a point that is.the country was in sad state.i dont have any regrets about all i did,the only regret should be bushs for not finishing it the firdt time then it would of prevented all of this.
