Have any of u ever noticed that most pre workout supplements say not to take a whey protein shake within and hour of taking the supplement, but I've heard from several bodybuilders(that do it for a living) that it is important to take a whey protein shake before lifting as well, to give ur body aminos to make sure the muscle doesn't break down. Is this true? They also say not to take within so many hours of eating, but its very rare that I haven't eaten in the past two hours and it says it will diminish the effects. I'm just curious, cuz here lately I've just been taking the pre workout supplement and only taking the whey after my workout.

during lifting, just like any other activity, the body looks for sources of energy, if it can't find anything useful, it'll turn to your reserve, glyco in muscles. if you ate i think two or three hours before w/o, nothin' to worry about, but yeah, you could use a lil' some to cope. and not really aminos but sugars, which are turned into gluco to be useful. as for pre w/o supp. check shock therapy from universal, been gettin' great results from it and it does NOT yap about not taking anything along with it.
