Half Power cleans - Wednesday, September 30, 2009 2:44 PM ( #1 )
Hey i wanted some help with the power cleans i am doing. My schedule is very tight so I cannot add power cleans in my leg workout.

since i do the legs the day before I do power cleans I dont like doing the full way for power clean. What i mean is i dont put the bar all the way to the ground and lift it back up. I dont put the bar on the ground at al i brign the bard down to my thighs and I olny do the hand motion where u bring it to ur shoulder than back down to your thighs and repeat the same thing. I dont like puttin it on the floor becuase i would have to use my legs andmy legs are sore from the day before so i let it recover. My coach told me to add these cleans to my workout.

I just want to target my shoudlers. So is that good?

Agreed. Sounds like a hang clean to me.

By the way when are you going to post your hang clean? Must be 15-20 pounds heavier by now yes?

you have absolutely no comprehension of what muscles are worked during a hang clean. u cant do a hang clean without using your legs!!! olympic lifts are all about explosiveness, u should not even use your arms to get the bar to the catch position when you are cleaning.

you have to explode up using your lower body in order to do a hang clean. if you dont want to work your legs then do standing overhead press, that will target your shoulders.

and form what it sounds like u are very inexperienced when it comes to lifting, i wouldn't try to do olympic lifts until u built a good base and have some fundamental understanding of the way the body works
Current: 19, 5'11", 190@7%

bench:305 squat:370(atg) deadlift:475
Goals: 4plate squat, 5plate dead

True, I should have focused upon the problem at hand. Olympic lifts are pretty much as close to full body as you can get and no matter where you start the clean, you are still going to be using your legs to explode the arm into the upright position; your arms shouldn't be doing any of the work, rather simply holding onto the bar as it travels its path.

maybe put them first on your leg day.  Then do legs afterward.  edit:  woops just read that you cant put them on your leg day.  You could probably get away with doing them next day anyway or wait 2 days and then do them so your fresh.

Regardless of what variation of clean you do your using legs as you have to jump the weight up.

you guys are right.. i just typed them on google they are hang cleans. sorry didnt knwo the name

my form is actually good daniel b/c I am new to this and I am not racking up a lot of weight I am just trying it with lower weights. Also I know u push with heals but I believe hang cleans use less of your legs than power cleans.

pumakrieg, I just started doing the routine i posted this week.

thanks everyone for the help
