My wife wants to know how the pros clean up the body hair before a competition. Waxing, Nair, Electrolosis or shaving?? She thinks it's sexy and adds to the definition with the oil and all. For me, I think I'd feel a bit "girly" about no body hair.

While I'm certainly not a competitor in the bodybuilding sense, I can say that I've tried a few products that don't really remove hair, rather thin it out big time. I've used a mens version of a battery operated shaver you can buy (I think it was from Norelco) anyways the mens versions seem to suck, I dont' know why. I saw an excellent battery operated one that's a female version (yeah yeah I know it's girly) and man I LOVE THIS THING! I set it to 1 or 2 and use it on my legs and arms. I have naturally hairy arms and legs so I've always been bothered by it and I always seem to feel warmer than I'm comfortable with. But this thing is awesome becuase it really thins out the hair, yet still looks like you have hair. I'm seeing now some good norelco ones, so I may try those. But that one I linked up there I got for like 18 dollars at the local drug store. I just brough it up in case you'd like to still have a little hair and not feel weird. I came into work one day and I got a couple of comments when I pretty much shaved it all off...won't do that again, LOLOLOL. I just stick to trimming.

Heck, if my significant other indicated there was something I could do to be more attractive to 'em, go for it. You won't feel girly after she thanks you for your efforts :)

LOL, FINE WITH ME! If you would kindly arrange something with God...I'll take a few more inches in my height in exchange for my hairy legs.

For starters, never shave against the grain. And while that advice may seem obvious, it has mixed results. I dry-shave everything with a disposable razor right out of the shower, and the only area I ever have problems with shaving bumps is along the top of my chest. This, despite the fact that I shave my forearms against the grain without any problems. I don’t know why, but I cannot use a razor on my legs under ANY circumstances –I end up itching so badly, it’s like someone sticking needles in my thighs. To solve that, I just use a foil shaver. Besides using a moisturizer (I’m generally very pleased with the body lotion varieties from Bath & Body Works), you might check out the shaving section of your local drug store –they make topical lotions specifically for this sort of thing, though I don’t know what they involve. Finally, on a side note, do you think we’ll ever ditch our irrational fear of shaving? Why the gender reinforcement? I mean, the funniest thing to me was reading a sarcastic column in Maxim once, badmouthing the practice of shaving one’s “Man Pelt”, only to be assaulted with twenty plus images of hairless male models in cologne and Calvin Kline ads in the very same issue. To add insult to their own double standard, every time they featured an article on fitness, their own models went smooth. Personally, I can’t stand body hair. It itches, makes me sweat, and is skanky looking. Not to impugn those of you who don’t mind (or actually prefer) bodyhair, but when I shave, I just feel cleaner, I dry off faster when I get out of the shower, I tan more evenly, and like Mark and Old Navy said, my muscle definition is that much more pronounced (and I need all the help I can get, LOL). It doesn’t say squat about your masculinity

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

I'm just going to throw my two cents in here I'm the only semi serious body builder I know with any body hair and most of the guy's think it's nasty but the gal's we know seem to prefer my "real" look and on that note luckely I dont have any on my back now that IS nasty once a gain this is just my two cents.

So shaving chest with a regular razor will not leave any stubble? I currently shave just on top of pecs with razor and shaving cream.. although no hair is visible, there is still enough to see that there is something there... I am thinking about shaving whole chest as I want abs to be more defined and I wouldnt mind sweating less... But i do not want to have stubble across my chest.. that would be pretty nasty. If using a razor? Shaving cream? In shower? what razor? more blades = better? I have gillete mach3 which needs new blade and a shick quattro with new blade. Any creams like nair? How about a moisturizer? any suggestions? Thanks a lot for your help.

Oh Kelly Clarkson! I just got waxed by my fiance since she's going to aesthetic arts school and they needed a male volunteer. Didn't mind having 3 women's hands on me at once, but Jesus it hurts.

yeah i ended up doing this a while ago.. like a month ago lol I like the way it looks.. but it grows back damn fast.. have to shave like every day lol A little bit of bumps near happy trail but they are barely visible... I shave agains the grain.. going upwards otherwise I get a really bad shave [regardless of razor.. i tried mach3, shick quattro and the new fusion] I get a very smooth shave everywhere except in btwn pecs.. that area is very tricky lol

I like staying shaved even in the off season but it does become a pain. Most girls are kind of skeptical about shaving at first but then end up liking it(just based on my experience). Girls don't like it though if you haven't shaved in a couple of days and you get the stuble. If your going to do it, you have to keep up with it. Like Veg eluded to, its a daily thing. About the razor burn, everyone is going to be different. I can shave against the grain, dry, with the grain, no lotion, lotion, it doesn't matter. I don't get razor burn. I'm just lucky like that. A guy a train with though can shave using every product out there and still get razor burn.
