HST, my wife and I - Tuesday, July 01, 2008 2:34 PM
I finally started doing the HST workout posted by smoundzu and have a few doubts.  The first is a concern I have with my wife and the progressive loading, the gym we workout in does not have 2.5 plates so that means she would have to add 10 lbs. for her next workouts, which is a high jump for certain excercises.  I had a hard time yesterday figuring out the weight she was going to begin with, thinking ahead on the upcoming workouts.  I just don´t want her to hit a sticking point. Assuming she does get stuck, should she perform an extra set for that excercise or what is the solution?

The other doubt I have is regarding the excercises done, how often should they be switched?  This is what I had in mind and started out with yesterday.  I will do the two weeks of 2X15, 3 weeks of 3X10 and 3 weeks of 5X5 on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays going ABA, BAB.

A Workout
Squats
Barbell Rows
Flat Bench press
Standing military press
Barbell Curls
Skullcrushers

B Workout
Leg Press
Deadlifts
Incline dumbbell press
Clean and press or Upright rows
Dumbbell Curls
Pressdowns or close grip bench press

I will skip the isolation excercises as suggested trubeginner in another post when we get to the 5 reps.

Last, Tuesdays and Thursdays are complete rest days or is cardio allowed?

Any comments are welcomed.

Maybe you could buy a couple of 2.5's that fit the bars at your Gym. I don't think they will be to much of a cost at 2.5. Then you can bring them in when your wife needs them. Just a thought.
I'm pricing some 100lb plates now. My calf workout (seated) uses all the 45's I can stack on it. I brought it up to the owner about some 100's, but as of yet I have not seen them...so, I think i'll make a donation to my Gym.

Regarding your wife, don't worry much about her starting weight.. If you need, you can always go a little lower, by the end of the first micro cycle, you should have a good idea of what her capabilities are and can adjust the 10's and 5's accordingly.  My advice for her would be to shoot on the lighter side and if near the end of the cycle, you can always add weight, but if you start too heavy, it makes it more difficult to adjust.  another solution would be as the other poster said.. go to walmart and purchase two 2.5 plates.. I can' imagine them costing more than $10 total.

Now let me address your question regarding the routine.. the first problem I see is, you've chosen to work your bi's and tri's 3X's weekly and on some weeks will only be working major muscles groups one time.  Doesn't make much sense.. If anything, you want to focus on having frequency with the compounds and if you feel the need.. throw in some feel good isolation exercises..

Try this:

Monday
Squat
Flat Bench
OH Press
BB Rows
Pullups
Skull Crushers

Wednesday:
Deads
Incline Bench
Oh Press
BB rows
SLDL
BB Curls

Friday:
Squat
Flat Bench
OH Press
BB Rows
Pullups
Skull Crushers

Thanks for the reply.  Not from the States, but I´m sure i can find the 2.5 in a sporting good store in my country.  Thanks for the advice on the routine, the way I saw my setup I was hitting all areas 3X a week with different excercises.  I thought it was a whole body workout that´s why I included a bicep and tricep exercise each day, but can´t mess with the man who brought the workout itself to us though, so I´ll make the adjustment.
