Well, im new here and i need help. I am 13 years old , 6ft 2 inches tall. and weigh around 215 LBS. People at school say im buff but they only see that as me with a shirt on. Im a big guy, like a foot ball player lineman think of me as that. What I need help with is losing body fat to tone my muscle but I only know how to lose weight, not FAT. Im not so fat really but i need to get rid of what i have, a descent amount but not obese (no man boobies lol), before i start to body build. But my main reason i posted was because i need to know how i can lose my body fat. Im knowledgeless right now really. I can lose weight, but i dont want to, i need to lose the BODY FAT. Any help would be fantastic.Smile

You're 6'2", 215 Lb, and you're only 13??

I hate you already... In a good way Smile LOL!

Jeez, dude.  You're gonna be a mass MONSTER Smile  I think someone with your stats might actually find it easier to lose bodyfat as you get into your late teens and early twenties.  Start now, and stick with it -I have a feeling you'll be making a ton of guys very jealous.

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

i concur.. lol

doing a lot of cardio would gurantee a reduction in bodyfat
but i'm thinking wouldnt it be a better idea to use ur mass to gain muscle then trim down the fat??
i guess thats jsut me

haha cool thanks. by the way i just started lifting weights a week ago and my friends talked me into it because im like the strongest guy in my school, nuff said. I can bench press about 120 lbs, inclined about the same, declined 100, and Curl about 40 or 35. Is that any good for 13?
PS those are just a few workouts i was wondering about i do lots more.

Sounds like nice amounts of weight for someone your age- How about writing out your entire workout routine? We might be able to help you with that.
When it comes to losing weight though, it's all about diet- And the first step of getting your diet on track is finding out how many calories you need to be eating every day. Check out this post-
http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/What_the_hell_is_a_calorie_anyway/m_135283/tm.htm
And follow the link at the end of the article to the calorie calculators. Let us know what number you come up with, and we can help put a meal plan together that'll help you reach your goals.
Without the right diet in place, you're not going to see the results you're after- So, confusing or not, this is the best move you can make.

for a 13 year old who just started, ya thats pretty good.  but at your weight, im surprised you cant naturally lift more.  that could be cuz your 13 and you havent hit puberty yet(im assuming)

I would not worry about fat just yet.  Go with the size thing.... use good form....don't really worry too much about the amount weights you can left until your about 16 or 17, because that is when your likely to start really gaining.

Have you discussed weight training with your doctor?  13 is young.  Really young.   But it's not too young to lose fat.

IMO, you'd be much better off training your core and doing bodyweight exercises.  That way, when the testosterone hits, you can really take off in bodybuilding.
