Hi everyone, thought I'd put in a few lines here at Discuss Bodybuilding. I'm 49 years old, been training with weights/bodybuilding on and off for about 20 years and have recently decided that I really need to stop my habit of jumping from one training routine to another, and stay with one for at least 3-6 months!! I have decided that I would give the Max-Ot system a damn good go for the full 12 weeks, without changing anything! (Mindful of joint care and warming up properly). Maybe I might see my 50th birthday with a physique better than the one I had when I was 30!!!

Welcome to DB Gary1954! Max-OT is a pretty cool routine. It's not easy. But it's very simple to follow. That downloadable guide is comprehensive and should be a breeze to follow.

Stick with it. You will notice a difference.

Sounds like you are on your way to fitness with a good attitude. Hopefully you'll find some support here to help you out along your journey.

There's lots of posts and topics here. Feel free to search around and read.

Hey I thought I was the old man here.<g> Just found this forum and see Gary1954 is a few years older than my 44. Sounds like he's been working out longer than me too! Any other members over 40? 30?

Hey Guys. It looks like I seem to be the oldest guy on this forum. I'm 56, and started weightlifting after a 30 year layoff. Yeah, I know what took you so long. Well the kids are gone and I have more time for my wife and myself. I have been working out for about 2 years now and have gotten decent results. I have lost over 35 pounds and went from a 34 to 30 inch waist. The only problem I seem to have is being a hardgainer, I can't seem to get the results I want. Even though I'm in the best shape I've ever been in past 30 years but, need to get over this plateau I have been on for the past 5-6 months. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to DB guiman! Oldest, youngest, doesn't matter. I'm sure you'll find a wide variety of information here.

The best suggestion I can offer is to read thru the forums, especially the top posts (pinned to the top) and then ask questions. Begin an online training journal and keep track of workouts and eating. Daily or just occasionally to help monitor your progress.

When you come across something you don't understand, post a question. If you come across something elsewhere, come back here and ask. Somebody will help out if they can.

Congratulations on the best shape ever. That is motivating to some of us for the years to come.

As far as a plateau, it can be something as simply as just changing your workout routine a little or checking out the recipe forum and looking for new things to eat.

Hello, I'm 37 and getting back into lifting after dropping 50 lbs. on a low-carb diet. I have lots of questions so bear with me. I looked around quickly on the site and could'nt find any info on CLA. Any input? I've been using it for about 3 months, I'm not sure if it has made a big differance.

How did that workout for you anyway? Was it easy or did you have cravings that drove you crazy at times?

I checked out the CLA link, thanks. The diet worked great for me. I kept my carb intake to 20-30 grams a day for about 3 months. I was never hungary. My biggest craving was for chocolate, but I got over it. I'm now adding more carbs to my diet and my weight loss has slowed. I went from 237lbs. to 185-188lbs. I'm adding mass, so the weight is not a problem. I now wear size 33 jeans, down from 40's. I lift alone in the mornings, so my rotine is not complicated. I'm not sure how to keep changing it so my body won't get used to the same work out over time. I'm getting stronger every week so I guess theat has not happened yet.
