Ok, my for graduation my dad is wanting to sell my truck and get a car. With gas the way it is, that's just freaking great. He already found a '00 Honda Civic. It's all black with tinted windows, manual trans., 18" rims and...I can't remember what kind of tires, he said they were nice though, cold air intake...I can't remember all the details, it's still early in the morning and I'm just going from memory lol. But he said it sits really low to the ground which worries me a little because I don't want to have to worry about bottoming out all the time. They are asking $5,500 for it...I know I didn't give much info, but all you car junkies does that price sound about right?

Also, my mom offered to get me a laptop, give me the cash it would cost for a laptop, or if I can think of something else that she can do...ideas? My mom isn't exactly poor, but she definately isn't rollin' in benjamins lol, so I kinda feel bad asking for something even fairly expensive. Should I just go with the laptop? If so, suggestions on what kind, etc?

Gracias to any advice.

That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

Haha, sorry...I had only been up for like 5 minutes and was on my way to weedeat the yard.

I coulda sworn my dad told me it was 101k, but my mom swears up and down that he said 121,000, and I usually don't pay attention when my dad talks so we'll go with 121 lol.

$5k for something with 100,000 miles.  Tell that guy to suck a fatty.

I wouldn't pay more than 3 for it, and that's pushing it.

if it has rims and a cold air intake I would bet money that the kid that owned it drove it like he was paul walker in the fast and the furious, lol. Honda's are great cars, I just dont know about buying one from some kid.

5500 does seem a little high, but beware. i recently bought a used car only to find out it had been previously salvaged(with the owner tried to hide from me), needed 2 new front shocks(which the previous owner personally told me he had REPLACED 10k miles ago, local mechanic told me they were stock shocks), and new ball joints. but hey now im just 1500 dollars in debt for repairs. make sure when you buy it that the owner has the pink slip, and you have looked the car over very thoroughly! test the shocks!

dude honda's run for a long time. ask anyone. they are good reliable cars. 101k isnt anything for a honda. i know people who have over 200k and it still runs strong.

and its an 00', i say go for it.

Hondas and Toyotas keep their value really well. You probably wont find a Honda or Toyota that new under 5k no matter what it is or how many miles it has. A guy I work with has a '94 Honda Prelude, it's lowered rims tinted windows....In his days drove it like a maniac...Has 194,000 on it and still runs great, he has never had any problems with it. Just make sure to stay ontop of oil changes.

Also Honda Civics are cool looking and have GREAT gas mileage.

Well it wasn't some hot rob teen driving it. I haven't met her yet, or even seen the car in person (my dad found it and is trying to set it up), but he said it's a lady that is like in her early 30's...so odds are that she didn't "paul walker" it that much. However, I think having a mechanic check it out definately sounds like a good idea.

haha, whys that yet?

You got with her and bust the suspension?

haha

I guess yet sleeping around does have its advantages

I dont know jack about cars...jill on the other hand.

Anyway, laptops what are you aiming for? Gaming or standard?
Personally software companies are ripping the **** out of people nowadays because computer powers are going up up up.

For example to run simple windows suite packages on vista takes up apparently 256-512mb of memory, along with vista etc too.

Sorry but who the **** programmed that? Talk about ****ty, because computers are so powerful theres no need to get a new one unless its for gaming, so now they fill standard programs with a load of unneeded bollox and make them run using extortionate amounts of RAM

I mean i dont get why some top of the line games of 2004 required 512mb of memory, and now a top of the line WORD PROGRAM requires the same in 2008?

Its obviously so computer sales dont sink entirely because that power isnt needed for 95% of the population.

If youre getting vista

2GB DDR2 667 speed RAM
core duo or quad core 2 ghz or thereabouts
120GB harddrive
Anything by Nvidia at 256mb ram will do nicely.

Thatl cost you around $1800

Of course an ACTUAL PC with them specs will cost loads less, laptops overheat, and theyre seriously expensive, so unless you really are desperate for mobile computing, just get her to buy you a new desktop PC, they wont overheat, and they cost less, and the hardware models arent "mobile" (meaning underpowered)

A 256mb Nvidia GFX card in a laptop is much less powerful than its desktop counterpart.

for the record 256megs of ram on a vidia card is nowhere near enough these days for much any new game.  The amount isnt generally the issue its the memory bandwidth and bus size.  You need something with a 256bit memory bus (which is most "decent" cards).

ohh and that laptop you described can be had for under 1000.... with a bigger harddrive (500 gig) possibly more ram (3 gigs), and a better processor on the du-core, not quad as there are very few select laptops running desktop procs.

I agree, but he was talking laptops...which dont really go above 256mb do they?

And when they do theyre shared from the actual RAM, which while good in theory doesnt really work in practice.

Though they might have made a 512mb model for laptops?

I know theyve gone to 768mb on some Nvidia cards on desktops?? (or have they done a full 1gb now?)

You know more about me than this soccerking so take SK's advice over mine Smile
