Good Carb/Protein/Fat Ratio for cutting - Thursday, June 22, 2006 11:37 PM
My friend is around 280 lbs, 5'10 and around 28% bodyfat. He is determined to workout and lose the weight. I am helping him. However, I am not an expert on ratios for nutrition. He will be working out around 5 days a week, doing cardio 3 times a week for 20 minutes or so.

First of all, if he's gonna do that amount of exercise without alot of experience under his belt, then he oughta start very light so that the first couple of weeks won't kill him. Someone else can give you opinions on the ratios, I don't have opinions that would suit for everybody. But make him sure to eat lots of vegetables, some fruits (apple is good), some whole grains (and no other grain products than WHOLE), a bit of legumes, a bit of good nuts and seeds (hazelnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds etc, but no peanuts, they're more for bulking) and a bit of good oils (cold pressed rape oil and olive oil etc.). For animal products, go for lean meats (quarry, poultry without skin), some fish and low fat milk products and a bit of eggs. And lotsa fluids (mostly water)!!

That's just a little generic pointer for a healthy diet. Of course it might be pretty hard to get everything of these into the diet even weekly, but make sure he atleast gets the point with veggies, WHOLE grains and lotsa fluids!

For Losing Fat

You need to improve the metabolism before you start messing with anything else.

All he needs is to do a little more than he was doing before to see results....start out with almost NO training...GRADUALLY work him up...switch the stimuli weekly.  Do not overdo the cardio and make sure it is after lifting.  45 minutes max lifting and ....total time for lifting + cardio max at 75 minutes !

Do not let him starve!
