Going from 3 days to 2 days a week for the summer
-

I am considering switching up my routine from 3 days lifting, 3 days MA to 2 days lifting and 4 days MA. I am concerned about strength lost but I am having so much fun doing the MA that it may be worth it to me. Are there any 2 day a week workouts? Maybe something like: Sunday: Squat OHP Row Pullups Mon-thurs: MA\Heavy Bag Work Friday: Power Clean Bench DL Chinups Saturday Rest

Yeah I am most likely going to do it, I am just curious if anyone else has tried to go to 2 days a week and still make some gains. Or a rough idea on how much strength they lost. I have been squating 2-3 times a week for the past year, going to once a week is going to be really odd.

you'll make gains, would it be optimal? no, but you seem like you have your prioritys and goals in mind when doing this, so it shouldnt be a big deal. good choice of exercises though. I might suggest squating both days, but other then that, it looks good for only 2 days.

Yeah I was surprised how much more enjoyable MA is this time around, maybe because im older but I actually enjoy the soft forms and the artsy part of it that I never appreciated when younger. Last time it was all about power and grappling skills. So you think take out the power cleans and squat both days? Im not sure I could handle Squat\Powerclean\DL on the same day, maybe if I went like 75% on squat weight.

i wouldent worry about losing strength gains. Plus mma and grappling/ BJJ aren't about how much you can bench or squat. it's all about technique and endurance. i've rolled with cats weighing over 300lbs and choked them out with no problem and rolled with guys as light as 130lbs who have mopped the matts with me.

2 days a week is plenty just do upper/lower and include - dead lifts, Squats of some sort, bench press, bent over rows, pull ups, lateral raises, barbell curls (only 1 exercise for biceps), Tricep dips or regular dips... and thats a bout all you need. just focus on beating the logbook everytime and when you cant beat the logbook change the exercise. if you need more info let me know i can type up the whole workout

2 day week routines generally have 80% of the potential effect of a 3 day routine.

Big ups, man! Starting July 17th I'll be teaching 3 MMA classes a week, so I'll be dropping my 3rd day of lifting because MMA training, on top of lifting, on top of teaching is gonna be brutal. All this heavy lifting has dropped my endurance down considerably, so it'll be good to get back into it and hopefully get that back up quick.
