The Ultimate Glutamine Thread People have posted their opinions here. There's links to studies. I think you'll find that glutamine helps burn victims and compromised immune systems. I don't see much evidence showing that it really does anything at all for muscle growth or preservation.
However, if you give a man a sugar pill and it helps him bench 315 lbs.. Then..
I was and maybe still am a fan of glutamine. But honestly the link covers a lot of ground. You can add to it.. but most of the angles have been covered.
