Glutamine

i'm 5'4" 120 lbs, i take 10-15 grams of glutamine before and after a work out.. as well i take 10 before bed time. I was told that was waayyy too much and that i should limit my intake to only 5g per day. Is this true?? I'm working out trying to get ready for my first competition. I'm aiming to gain another 10 lbs by August. Are there any side effects to taking 'too much' glutamine?? Also, i take between 200 adn 225g of protein.. again i was told this was over kill... and that i should limit myself to 120 to MAYBE 125g protein per day... any feed back?

No, you can't take "too much" glutamine. The worst that will happen is it'll get converted into sugar, then fat, or you'll go broke buying too much of it. However, you probably already get most of the glutamine you need from your diet (it's the most common amino acid in most proteins after all), so taking that much probably isn't doing you any more good than just taking a little after a workout and before bedtime. It seems the general recommnedation here on the board is 1 gram of protein per one pound of body weight per day if you're trying to build muscle, so again, you're probably taking more than you can make use of.
