I went in to buy a new bottle of Muscle Milk at a local Smoothie King and the guy there directed me towards another item called Gladiator (which also happens to be made by Smoothie King). I bought it, but haven't opened it to try it yet since I still have a day's worth of Muscle Milk. Anyways, have any of you heard of this one? It's low carb, only 1g, but 45g's of protein. And it's also only 180 cals for 2 scoops. I started the MM about 3 weeks ago before and after workouts, with some Designer Whey before bed. I've noticed good strength gains but haven't lost any fat nor lost weight despite cutting my calories. That MM puts on about 1000 cals in my daily diet by itself. Anyone think this Gladiator would be bette so I can cut the calories I need?

Absolutely better, if you're trying to cut out unnecessary calories. Gladiator is primarily a dedicated protein supplement (Like ON 100% Whey). They just dispense with all the carb calories so you can use it to boost the protein content of whatever you add it to.

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

What type of protein is it though? Different types of protein have different benefits. Some may have more calories but have better protein in which which may help boost your imune system, where as others have been processed and loose a large amount of this and other contents to get more protein per calorie. In a post that I submitted yeseterday someone told me that MM has Casein in it which is a longer digesting protein and and depending on what you want can be a good or not so good thing.

What types of situations would make a longer absorbing protein such as Casein a good thing? I looked at my MM bottle, the first ingredient listed is Evopro which is made of "micellar alpha and beta caseins and caseinate whey concentrates, whey isolates, and whey peptides," among other things. Gladiator's first ingredient is SK Pro-Sorb Protein Blend: "whey protein isolate, lecithin, egg white solids." The mentioning of egg does explain the smell, which is not too great, but it tastes alright... nowhere near as great as MM unfortunately. But I guess I'm just not working out hard enough to get full benefits of MM and not just gain weight from it, partly because of carpal tunnel in one of my wrists.

Longer digestion rates would be good to take at night before you go to bed, or something like that. I think it helps keep you from going catabolic. It has also been said that it can help increase you metabolism because of this.

Hmm, makes sense. I had been doing MM before and after workouts then a Designer Whey shake before bed. I looked at the Designer Whey bottle and found no Caseins or anything that looks like it helps it absorb slowly overnight. Maybe I should use this Gladiator protein, which seems to be better than pure whey, but without the calories of MM, before and after workouts. Then when I'm done with this Designer Whey bottle, buy something like Syntha-6 that has those Caseins, but is less calories than MM. Anyone heard anything good about Syntha-6? Actually, after reviewing some faulty mathematics on my part, looks like Syntha-6 is actually more calories than MM. Hmm, maybe the MM before bed instead?

Someone suggested EVO pro, made by the same company as MM, same protein but without the fat and some of the other excess stuff. I am actually going to pick up a tub tonight, has alot less calories than MM and fat as well.

Actually, now that you mention it, the guy who was working there at Smoothie King today pointed that one out too because of the smaller amount of calories, forgot about it. Hmm... mind posting any comments on it after you got it?
