Yes....completely.....do your cardio, eat right, and do some moderate weight lifting and you'll get toned.....You won't put on bulk and look like a bodybuilder unless you really try to

Nick. Nick. Nick. I expected better from a regular around here. Smile

A muscle can grow, shrink or stay the same. There is no such thing as toning in an of itself. What most women want is to grow some muscles and loose the fat that covers said muscles. What most women fear is that lifting anything heavier than a 12 lb dumbbell will make them look like a female bodybuilder.

Women who lift heavy, do cardio and eat a good diet will end up with a nice body and will rarely bulk up like a bodybuilder. The women who get really, really large are usually on some sort of um...enhancer. The women who just get bulky like that picture eat a bodybuilders diet (lots of calories) to grow muscle, and then go on a strict precontest cutting diet to get down to a very low body fat to show all those muscles.

So I would encourage you to lift heavy. Find a good program, search around here for some ideas and don't be afraid to get strong. A great site for all things about women and lifting heavy is http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html

1) build muscle
2) maintain muscle
3) lose muscle

That's pretty much it.

As Jenng says, you'd need some testosterone help to be huge. My wife has been doing the Optimum Anabolics workout program with me. It's pretty hardcore. And she's nothing like the picture that Jenn links to. So no, you will not get all bulky. If it were that easy, then all the gyms in the gym would be HUGE as well. It takes testosterone and hard work. Genetics and diet.

You going in the gym and doing a good hard workout will not make you masculine.

Body building. It always gets the one sided image to huge guys. But it's nothing more then

body

building

A runner is a body builder. Anybody who does fitness is building thier body. There's many goals within body building but the only image people think of is Mr. Olympia.

It is not wrong of women to hit the weights. There are a few that do at my gym but only a few can hang with the guys. It's a myth.

I didn't really mean toning in the typically use of the term. She wants that "toned" look that majority of women are after and I just meant that by following a program a cardio, eating right, and weightlifting, she can acheive the "toned" look that she's after, even though there is no real toning of muscles in the shaping sense. My main point is you can't look like Ronnie coleman by accident, otherwise, your lucky Smile

Actually, that is a great site for ANYONE. She really tells it like it is. Sure there is a female viewpoint but the information that she has there applies to anyone. Plus she's just a stitch.

It's good that you are accepting of the way you are. Not very many women can say that.
If you decide that you need advice on how to achieve a certain look, you are more than welcome to come here.
