Hello, I'll take this opportunity to tell a bit about myself. I'm 16, a former football player, I found football wasnt really for me so I've been out of the gym for awhile. This next week I wanna get back into it pretty seriously. I've done some research and found a diet plan that on paper looked like could work well, I am by no means an expert though so tell me your thoughts.

Would going on a 2000-2100 calorie diet, 20% fat, 55% carbs, and 25% protein for one week with lots of cardio and weight lifting(lighter weight, more reps to tone):

Monday: Chest/Back
Tuesday: Cardio
Wedensday: Arms/Shoulders
Thursday:Light Cardio and abs
Friday:Legs
Saturday:Cardio and abs
Sunday:off day

Followed by 2 weeks of a 4,000 calorie diet with more protein and heavy weight lifting and some cardio on off days. Similar make up as above, but much heavier and less reps.

Rinse and Repeat.

All this with a healthy diet, now in theory this would allow me to put on good mass during the 2 week 4k cal diet, and tone during the 1 week 2k cal diet. Now once again I'm not an expert on all of this so, would this be a good way to go about getting lots of muscle mass, while not looking "fat", but having some tone. I would plan to do this until I get a good amount of muscle mass and then cut until im ripped.

Sorry for the long post and thanks to whoever reads it all!

Starting with the bulk might be more productive.

If you starve the body for two weeks, you will not see great gains in the following two weeks.

Find what your caloric needs to gain muscle are and eat that to grow..don't pick numbers out of the air..but if you do just go with 2000 and 4000...is that 6 meals a day?

I would prefer more of a longer cycle of bulking.  Gain for 8-12 weeks!  Then cut the calories only 500-1000 and trim for a while til you are where you want to be or comfortable...ten 8-12 bulk again.

quote:

20% fat, 55% carbs, and 25% protein

that might be good...125 grams of protein, 275 grams of carbs... depending on your weight..you might lose a good bit of muscle with that little carbs and protein...

Read this, and follow the links to get YOUR calories to gain!

After looking around the site a bit, I'll go the route you speak of. Yes, I do plan on 6 meals a day. Right now im around 200 pounds. Not quite sure on the exact exercise routine I'll be doing, do you have any suggestions?

Look in that link for Gaining Mass I gave...at the bottom..at the 3-day routine.
He describes a very nice, constant variation, low volume, short duration in gym growth and strength workout.

If you get your calories to the 3500 or whatever you need to grow...that should be a nice 8-12 weeks of growth!

After that a 2-day split is a nice follow up.
