Just looking for a little advice on weight gain.

I'm at about the 6th week of bulking on the Rippetoe Starting Strength Routine.  Currently can only squat 90lb until the end of the month when I can afford a rack. Benching 100lb and the presses and rows 84lb.  I'm not too concerned about the numbers as I know I can get them up quickly once I get the rack.  My gains have been ok. Quite a lot better tone in my arms and quads have even changed a fair bit despite the low weight I am restricted to.

The first 2 weeks I managed to put on 1lb so after I was stupid and injured my shoulder (had to take a 2 week break), I upped my calorie intake using the Harris-Benedict formula as a guide which put me at 3000-3100 calories a day and I also started using creatine mono and whey for smoothies to help get to the calorie intake.  Also added some EFAs like Flaxseed oil and peanut butter to the diet to help. Also having my one take out just to spice my diet up a bit and boost the calories a bit more.  When I include PWO shakes am going about 400 cals over the daily amount on workout days.

This has lead to me gaining 4lbs in 15 days and a fair amount of this is fat on my abdomen but not waist, although with my bf level its hard to say how much is fat.  At least some is muscle though as the lifts are increasing. Is this too much weight gain? Should I be looking to take it slower than this? Or could it be just my body adjusting to higher calorie intake and it might level off a bit? I could reduce portions easy enough to get the weight gain down or would people recommend giving it a couple more weeks to see if it the gain slows down.

Any advice would be appreciated - diet is so complex to the newcomer!

looks to me like you just need to do a bit more cardio man..it really helps with the excess fat that you feel that you are gaining especially since you are on a break. Although, you shouldn't really concern yourself with that yet since you are on a bulking phase hehehe.

oh yeah your shoulder injury? good idea on the break man. better to have it rested. i had a shoulder injury once, then overdid it. end result? 2 months of physical therapy. yaiks..

cheers bro!
