 Gaining speed and bulking?

Gaining speed and bulking? - Monday, April 17, 2006 6:04 PM
My season is about to end and over the off season i need to gain some weight and bulk up, but the same time i need to increase my speed. I was planning on lifting and eating heavily most of the summer but closer to season work on cardio. Any suggestions?

Depending on what sport you're getting ready to finish up i would still do some sprinting, and cardio now if i were u
from football over the winter i didnt worry about cardio until right before track and im just not getting back to peak shape.  I mean just try to keep in shape

To increase your speed use power cleans and plyometrics...keep in shape all summer, not just for the start of the season.
 
Look at lifting heavy on low reps to bulk up...eat and sleep plenty aswell

We start practicing again in about 3-4 months. There are conditioning classes over the summer that are coaches are recomending for us but i would like to bulk up a little first.

Well one way or another you are going to have to look at sacrificing a bit of bulk in order to be fit again.

I would reccommend that to make massive steps in strength power and speed, you would need around a 12 week dedicated programme, so that in effect leaves you with around 4-6 weeks bulking...

I would reccommend sorting your diet so that you have enough calories for bulking for around 6 weeks, and then look at gettin a maintenance diet...

Go for bulk, maximum hypertrophy for 6-8 weeks and then look at strength and power, you may need to eat above maintenance....

once you are about 10 weeks in, look at adding plyometrics to the routine as well, this will aid your speed...no one can defend against speed....

Hypertrophy is posh for muscle building :p

Plyometrics are a series of impact moves that increase power and strength in the legs...
