You can if you'd like, but you will probably have to eat more to make up for the extra calories you burn if you still want to gain weight.

i don't. i have trouble gaining weight as it is... i eat everything i can and still barely gain. so.. for me to do cardio with all of that, would be be very dumb. i wouldn't gain any weight at all.

Same here. Cardio would kill any weight gain for me. I run in place for a minute or two, and do some jacks before I workout just to warm up, but that's all.

When I first started lifting I couldnt lose weight for the life of me...After I Started lifting for awhile I guess my metabolism sped up and I lost weight very very quickly if I did any cardio...Infact I use to play basketball at hte gym for an hour every weekday (Constant running up and down) I had to stop because I would lose my gains and I ended up being a little twig.....But I would maybe recommed doing some type of cardio at least once or twice a week just to keep you healthy.

This will be shunned, but whatever. It is preached time and time again to always go into "calorie excess" in order to gain muscle. Note "calorie excess" is relative to exercise, if someone does relatively little, they need little food, if someone works out, theyl need quite a lot. You have already noticed a gain of fat in the abdominals, this means your body is getting too many calories and is storing fat, the easy solution, lower your calories by 200 ish, or, simply exercise, burn off 200 calories every gym workout. Id go for cardio because a)It is cardiovascular work, meaning itl make your heart a whole lot healthier, regardless of muscle a strong heart is always nice to have i find. b)It means you can still gorge on foods and not worry too much really. c)Lowering calories itself can change metabolic pathways depending on what actual foods you lower. I dont go for calorific excess, i go for calorific neutrality, i read my body and know what exact calories it needs, if its adding fat then obviously its not using them, so why bother giving your body them? Give your body enough to make muscle, but dont give it so much it adds fat, it takes a long-ass time but you can measure how your body works and muddling with calories helps you get to a nice equilibrium. Or if you dont wanna find your exact dietary needs, just run the rest off.

people make this too difficult sometimes. think of this in terms of your body = a car car needs fuel. fuel = food the more fuel you put into your body(car).. the more work it can do.. or, the further it can go. if you don't use up the fuel, it just sits there. you MUST have extra fuel in order to gain muscle therefore... gaining weight = eating in excess.. but moderatively. some people's bodies use up FUEL VERY FAST. therefore.. if they were to do cardio, they would have to SHOVE EVEN MORE FUEL into them just to gain a little weight. ^^ that is me, and this is why i don't do cardio while i'm bulking.

Good analogy Fox! Think 63 Vette vs. Yugo. My body is the Vette @ 8 mpg. The gas cap never gets put on.

If theyre gaining fat then theyre eating too much, gaining fat = eating too much Losing fat/muscle=not eating enough. "Calorific excess" is a term thrown round to show bodybuilding needs loads of calories, which it does, but it confuses people into thinking you have to gain fat on a bulk, you dont, ive gained my last 16lbs of muscle through such a clean bulk i even lost 2-3% bodyfat WHILE BULKING. Sure, put it down to my metabolism, but im usually at 6-7%, i got up to 11%, because i just ate in excess, which sure gained muscle, but i gained fat too. If you want to stay lean and add muscle you need to be calorie NEUTRAL, enough to build the muscle but no extra. The difficult way is to be anally retentive about your diet, the easier way is to simply do cardio to burn off any extra
