Gaining bulk vs. getting fat - Friday, May 25, 2007 9:19 AM ( #1 )
Hello everyone

As you can see I'm pretty much new to this forum - am 17 based in the UK. Having spent a good 6 months losing quite a bit of weight and gaining muscle (bicep 14") I'm now to a stage where I find it difficult to gain further muscle. There is probably something majorly wrong with my diet etc It seems if I increase my calorie intake that I gain fat rather than muscle through training. I am training - but probably over-training (go 4-5 times a week, 20-25+ minutes on weightraining rest on cardio).

Anyone got any advice? I am probably making the same mistakes lots of people have made before!

i am generally eating enough protein but at the moment limiting my calorie intake - should i increase it? I normally eat 2 meals a day (though people say 4-6)..

My routine aint bad tend to do alternate days on biceps/triceps/back and pecs/abs

Cardio wise i normally burn 400-600 cals..

To be honest I haven't been eating as many cals as I should be: I started eating more a few weeks ago and really just ate the wrong things and it was clear i was putting on fat rather than any form of bulk/muscle/volume etc.. What would you reccommend?

your burning 400-600 calories each day during cardio!??! Plus those calories you burn during weightlifting and only eating 2 meals a day!?!?? Eat more man, for a good base of just to eat, have like 5 meals of chicken on brown rice every day, you need way more calories because your burning a crap load! Just dont eat high saturated fats, eat some peanut butter, egg whites, oatmeal, unsalted peanuts, chicken and rice, and veggies.

5 meals of chicken and brown rice? that would be so boring, and nasty too IMO. 400-600 is kind of alot but not that much, how much do u normally burn per session?

It might get boring but it takes care of the meals, and its a good starting off thing its easy and quick. I usually burn 230-250 calories of 13 minutes of HIIT that is after my lifting session, which are usually intense so i dont know how much I burn lifting wise...Some days I lift, play pick up games of bball and then do 13 minutes of HIIT.
