RE: GT's Journal - Monday, February 11, 2008 5:38 PM
thanks IBB, but yeah, our weight training coach is going nuts trying to get us ready for the comp in a month. Power Cleans should be fun tommorrow, my last set will probably be insane. lol.

We are switching up the routine for the next three weeks, we are doing bench twice a weeks now and after 3 weeks we will be doing power cleans twice a week. After each cycle we are going to remax the lift we were doing twice a weeks so he can keep the teams updated. So I get to squat max again on Wed.

Today was chest/tri

flat bb bench
135x10 (warm-up)
185x6
205x5
220x4
230x3
240x3
245x3 (only supposed to do 2 reps, but I got them easy so I went for a third and needed a spot)

Incline (slow and controlled)
155x6
165x5
185x5

Close Grip
155x8
165x6
185x5

tricep overhead ext. with barbell
45x12
45x12
55x12

Dips
3x8x8x8 at BW
8 full reps, 8 pause at bottom reps, 8 quarter reps (quarter of way up then back down)

Squat Max

135x6
225x5
275x3
315x3
365x1
385x2 (410 squat on the rep max calc)

Coach was giving us the up signal to make sure we were going low enough, and he made me do both reps almost full ROM, well below parallel. Hopefully I will be able to put up more than that in a few weeks at the meet only having to go to parallel.

No idea, I have only done it a few times, and that was last semester. The heaviest I ever went was 365x2 or 3. I don't know my actual max though.

Nice, I wish I would have done cleans and deadlifts when I started working out. Just started doing them a month ago there going up fast but still below my bench press weight lol.

Cleans go up really fast when you first start. I remember when I first started doing them and I only maxed 155. At the end of that year I was putting up around 205 I think.

It sucks when you finally hit a wall with them though. I cannot tell you how long I was stuck at 270. lol.

Keep at em though, they are a great exercise.

This is pretty normal from what I have seen. There are very few people at my school who can clean more than they bench press. I know there is me and a linebacker that is in my weight training class who can clean more than we bench, but everyone else is either just under or nowhere close to being able to put up as much on cleans as they can on bench.
