Final,
Lots to be optimistic about!  You have little fat on you.  Do you have any training under your belt because there is muscle there!  You probably are an ecto like me.  You'll need to eat, eat, eat.  If your friends are indeed "friends," they'll support you in you effort to be buff like them.  For motivation, you might search RollingStone's posts, particularly for his progression pictures.  Hopefully he'll give you some tips.  Good workin' out!

Oh, my 2c on routine:  Full body compounds like squats, deadlifts, benches, presses, bent over rows, and pullups.  Use good form no matter how low the weight.  Progress the weight slowly, never compromising form.  Btw, do this and the other guys in the gym will notice your seriousness and dedication.  A weak guy who's busting his hump to try to better himself is much more admirable to me than a hulk trying to impress with big weights and crap form.  Good workin' out!  :)

Thanks alot for that fast and informative answer! you have no idea how much i appreaciate your answer, yeah i think im an ectomorph too, but you look big! haha admireable, im so thin, i will do exactly as you said.

and hahaa nope! i havent trained or having any knowledgde about weight lifting as of experiance since i've never worked out real before, ( i do have knowlegde basics )

thanks for it man, your right in what u say,

its hard to belive i actually have muscles and that its not just bones haha, its abit sad i dont have any fat, its really annoying. My bones are showing when i hve only a t-shirt on and i get commens about it, like as if i bought my t-shirts in italy, cause its growing spaghetti out of them ( my arms )

its true, toothpick arms and birdchest i have, im sad about it. But hey i'll follow your advices

thanks again!

im open for much more critics! go ahead, :D

Final,
Another thing I forgot and that's a bonus for you:  You're 16!!!  You'll be able to have testosterone coming out your ears!  Lift, eat, eat, eat, and lay low (don't burn too many calories doing active things).  Do you have access to a gym?  What you've got on hand at home is not going to do much good, imo.  Where do you friends work out?

haha yeah im 16!

but, speaking of testerone, will that improve my lifting? or, i dont quiet get it.

And yup im normally lazy, but i love to lift dumbells and bench pressing and squat, but i hate jogging and walk and so, haha. I guess thts good,

i DO have acces to a gym if i pay a membership, there is a gym in my town, and thats where my friends go, but im mainly scareed cause there younger kids there, thats probaly stronger than me, and it would end up very embarrasing. lol

thanks for ur reply

I know what you're saying, and kids often lack tact.  Adults too for that matter!  Some feel putting others down is a way to lift themselves up.  If your friends go and you go with them, isn't there some security in that?

I think every guy in my gym that I've felt intimidated by, when I got to know them, they were super nice guys and had some of the same insecurities I have.  I think you'll find a lot of guys work out because they're insecure about their looks and strength.  You've admitted you are.  I'm the same way.  Just today I introduced myself to a guy at my gym that I've crossed paths with dozens of times but was too afraid to introduce myself, like he wouldn't want to know me or something.  Today I struck up a conversation with him and another guy and now I feel like I made two new friends.  My workout was just okay but I made two friends and couldn't be happier.  Just remember a lot of what is going on in your head is going on in others' too.  Good workin' out!  :)

yeah maybe there is some security in that, but its the fact im the weak one that puts me down.

Re:From Skinny! to buff! ( Pictures inside ) - Friday, October 23, 2009 2:20 PM ( #8 )
Knew I was forgetting something:  Thanks for calling me "big"!  Ha ha!  You made my day!  And I may not be fragile looking, but I'm plenty fragile on the inside.  Trying to look good on the outside masks a lot of insecurity on the inside.  So don't think you're the only one.

But enough talk.  You need to get started!  Actually, perhaps you do need to keep talking:  Talk with your friends about what you'd like to accomplish.  They'll probably be flattered you want to look like them.  Have them show you what they do.  See if they can get you in their gym as their guest and see if you like it.  And even if you don't like it, try it 3 times and see what you think.  You're in high school, no?  Does your school offer weight training as a class?

Well you've been embarrassed and nervous before, and lived to see another day, right!?

Your idol?!  I'll bask in that until you see the likes of Nmoney, RollingStone, Perrynator, SoccerKing, JonB, and on and on.

Final, if you go to that gym, even if you suffer embarrassment, nerves, even ridicule, I can almost guarantee you'll come away feeling better about yourself because you had the guts to do it.  Just do it and I'll expect a full report!  :)

And ANYONE who would poke fun at someone's faults when that person is AT THAT MOMENT trying to fix those faults, is just being an A$$.  That loser may as well be shouting out their own insecurities and lack of all intellect and appreciation with a BULLHORN!  Like why would you ever make fun of an overweight person on the treadmill, or the alcoholic walking into an AA meeting?

My experience, though, is that those guys who you think are intimidating you, if you get to know those guys, they're actually really cool people.  Your mind was just playing tricks on you.  In my experience, those guys get a real ego boost when you compliment their hard work and ask for their advice sparingly.  In other words, no one likes their valuable workout time interrupted.  But between-set rests are usually good opportunities for talking.

Good workin' out!  :)

CONSTANTLY!!!  Especially with the UnderArmor shirt, short shorts, deck shoes, ankle socks, too-tight belt, gloves, and matching purse.  I'm still in the market for a JonB sideways hat.

JMBS im disappointed you haven't pointed him to a good routine such as the one in Starting Strength.

I'm 17, so i am young too, and as long as you eat like a true man and train correctly then you will be fine.

Re:From Skinny! to buff! ( Pictures inside ) - Monday, October 26, 2009 1:43 PM ( #23 )
you will make some impressive gain if as others have said you eat alot and as clean as possible, concentrate on the big compound lifts such as squats deads bench, pull ups, oh press and bentover rows.

it is important to realise that it is a slow process but have faith and you will make good gains, why not use the others in the gym as motivation, more than likely the people who intimidate you dont really know what they are doing !

good luck

I can't tell you for sure as a decent bit of it has to do with genetics, but i'd be willing to bet you could get a pretty solid base if you do everything perfect for a year. (Keep in mind hardly anyone does). I'm a mid 200 bencher, semi high deadlifter and only squat like 280-300 so my numbers and body is definently something achievable.

Uggh!  Starting Strength did go through my mind, but it seems like the first words out of anyone's mouth these days is "Starting Strength"!  Seems to me the first step in this situation has little to do with the right exercises, good form, and putting on weight, but in feeling comfortable with the whole gym scene.  Just go in there with a friend or two.  Have them show you the ropes, and play around a little.  Yes, you need a mission and a program is good for that.  You don't look like you're just d1cking around wasting everyone's time and using valuable equipment, but I would advise not to get too hung up on routine for the moment.  Crap, available equipment isn't even known yet.  The Starting Strength book has been useful to me, but don't you think it's a bit much for the newbie?  I realize it's called "Starting" Strength, but it's quite a bit to digest.  I would advise having a friend do a simple routine, and just parrot what he does and alternate sets.  For the time being, I could give two craps what the exercises are.  Just get in there and get comfortable.  Just my 2c.  Good workin' out!  :)

Final,
I don't know your particular body genetics (you'll find out soon enough), but don't instantly get caught up in what weights your pushing  compared to others.  Different bods respond differently.  While I'll probably never be satisfied with my aesthetics, my appearence doesn't tell the story of how lame my lifts are.  My body seems to respond well, even at age 46, to mediocre weights.  My bench is at 180, squat 190, deadlift 260.  They're going up thanks to advice from the guys at DBB, but I've never benched my weight in all of my 46 years, yet I have a pretty decent chest.  Biggest secret I've learned here at DBB:  EAT!  Good workin' out!  :)

PK,
No, I didn't.  Sorry, I'm a little slow.  What don't you like about SS?  It seems incomplete to me, but not a bad base from which to build a program.  What's your beef w/it?  I don't know that a power clean has a place in a noobs routine, but I'm no expert.  What do you think of a full body compound 3x per week?  I love my 5x5 (squat/bench/row Mon and Fri;    squat/press/dead Wed.  + pullups every workout.  (and some other assistance).

I just don't think squatting 3x a week and doing pressing movements 3x a week is for everyone although it admittedly does work well for some noobies. I also don't completely agree with Rippetoe's squat form in general.
