Hey guys, I'm new here at the forums. My name's Josh. I work out at home and sometimes at the gym. While I'm working out, what type of foods should I eat to gain muscle mass. For a year now I've been working out at home with dumb bells etc. However, I never grasped the concept of the nutrition and dietary part of it. Any input would be great.

If your working out, eat a lot man, 6 meals a day. You need it to build muscle. Eat anything that is healty. And go for some protein shakes after workout too.

Tell us what you do for your workout, following any programs? We'll help you outSmile

Thanks for the reply man. I'm not following any programs at the moment. I'm concentrating on school haha. My workout at home consists of doing several exercises with the dumbbells, pushups, situps, jogging. I'm thinking of getting a bench press equipment but need to make money first. I have a six pack showing, but I want it to show out more. I'm lean and pretty well built but I dont have a lot of mass on me and I'd like to increase it. So Ill use your suggestion.

If you want mass, you're going to need some weights- Drop the pushups. They're great for endurance and everything, but they're not a big muscle building exercise.
Anyway, when it comes to nutrition, your best bet would to be to post something about how you eat in the nutrition forum, state your goals, and listen to what everyone has to say.
Off the top of my head though, you should be eating plenty of chicken- Great source of protein, great bulking food- And try to get yourself some good carbs, anything a hundred percent natural whole grain, whole wheat, etc is great. Pick up a good protein shake too. If you can eat four or five actual solid food meals a day and throw in a couple of shakes, you'll be well on your way to seeing some mass.

Watch out now, when you say meats he might go out and think Burger King and KFC are great places to find them. To specify, Ground beef, just the beef, mix in some rice for flavor. Chicken breast or turkey. Tuna is also very good. Eat pineapple chunks, rice cakes (for the go), rasins, whey protein shakes, glutamine, amino acids, either in a pill, or a vial, and some form of creatine. Eat all that and your diet is good to go.

yes, get some equipment and ask around the forums, almost anyone can give you a solid routine with what you have.

as for nutrition: you need to eat, and eat a lot. Put as much food in you as possible (good food)

things high in protein are essential, as well as carbohydrates

i typically try to get 200g of protein a day and as many carbs as possible, just because i want to gain mass like yourself

things high in proteins are: meats, dairys, shakes, beans and rice...
i usually eat a couple eggs a day, chicken, sometimes beef, cheese, tons of milk and 3 protein shakes/day

for carbs: pasta, cereal, bread, wheats, rice, bagels
those types of things have tons of carbs... PB&J is excellent

there is no real "correct" food to eat because everything has its pros and cons, you just need to eat a lot
