Fat lose Vs Muscle gain

I asked this question on another post and haven't gotton an answer. So I will ask it here. If you want to lose fat(and I mean 20 to 40lbs), but you also want to build muscle; is it better to focus on one area at a time. ie, lose the weight first, than bulk up with muscle. I've read a lot that has made it sound like it is impossible to eat few enough calories to lose weight and put on muscle, and impossible to drop weight when you are eating enough calories to put on muscle. Please advise if this makes since, and please advise if it doesn't.

It's definitely better to pick one of those goals at a time, and focus just on that. Like you said, in order to lose fat, you need less calories- Less calories means you won't be seeing much muscle gain. If you want to gain muscle, it means more calories- More calories means no real fat loss. Pick one of the two, and dedicate yourself to a reasonable goal- Then switch to the other.

Max OT is a mass building program- There's info in there on proper diet and even some cardio, designed to keep the fat gain to a minimum- But that program isn't a fat loss program at all. Like I said earlier- in order to lose fat, you need less calories- Less calories means you won't be seeing much muscle gain. If you want to gain muscle, it means more calories- More calories means no real fat loss.

Lifting certainly will not hurt during your weight loss, when you lift your burning calories even while you sleep. Meanwhile your getting used to a routine and learning to establish proper form.

I have lost fat, but not weight on this program so far.......I think it's the extra muscle burnin the fat - diet has not changed and I actually have not done as much cardio...I'm still working on what works best for my body - but I think this fellow should look at the MAX-OT and see what happens..if it does not work, change it...

I would say if you have some extra weight on now to do the lifting first. You need to have the calkories to feed the muscle, so that stored fat could come in handy while growing. Once you have reached a comfortable size level, then fire up the cardio full tilt and reduce the calorie count. Laser
