On the topic of Body fat measurement...THIS is how you will insure you are on track with whatever you want to accomplish!!!  The methods we can use to test our body fat ourself are unreliable on a one-time basis.  They are better used to track changes over time on an ongoing basis.

Test every 1-3 weeks at the same time of day...and use the same scale to take your weight.
Here is a calculator that allows you to use skinfold calipers (3 or 7 point test) or tape measure

Here is the best price I have found to date for accurate and professional but good n' cheap calipers:

Most people make the mistake of going very-low carb, which seriously impedes the muscle gain.  Carbs are needed to burn fats and build muscle.

If you use the info at the link I posted up there and plan a diet and training for the level of calories you need ...eat that way for a week and remeasure BF%...you will see what you really need to do to lose fat and gain muscle.  Use the cardio info.  Vary training.  Get PWOs to spare muscle.

LOTS of water.

i think that is wrong. and not because it said that my lean body weight is 153.51, and i have 65.49 pounds of body fat. it because the most i ever weighed was 250 pounds at 5' 9", i went down to 180 pounds for the military. and i was probably just 5 - 10 pounds shy of being ripped. and after i got denied for the military i stopped my diet and exercise. but i kept working out, and there is no way in hell that i could weigh under 185 right now and not be ripped. i weigh 219 and am told i look to be about 185 - 190.

i think one of the only ways that is actually accurate on how much weight is what, is to do that underwater deal, or the x-ray deal. i never really looked that much into it because i figured i would tell how much fat i had on me when i lost it. not really setting a goal, just monitoring my progress.

i think that is wrong.

Which method did you use...tape measure?

It is not correct, to be certain, because the variables they used to create the tests we can use are not extremely accurate on a one time basis!

Water displacement is a bit better...but not necessary if you are tracking your own body composition changes.

As I said: They are better used to track changes over time on an ongoing basis.

If you are at 22% and 16 years old, you could easily be using primarily diet and training to get the fat down to the upper teens at first...there are different types of fat mobilizers.

Lipotropics would be the fist stage for you.  These help to process the fat in the liver.  This would be helpful until you dropped down to about 18%.

Then you would look into a switch to a thermo.

But these are not necessary..they are only aids.  It is very possiblt to do it without.

i just think that thermogain is bad for someone in your situation, since you're in school. because this stuff starts working right away and if youre in the middle of class and wired to the edge wanting to do something. you might get in trouble for moving around too much.

and if you take it after school you could stay up too late into the night and not get enough sleep which is what is key to building muscle and loosing fat. im not saying sleep like a cat and take naps all day and sleep for like 10 hours a night, but if you dont get sleep then you will suffer in school.

its a messed up chain reaction, so maybe you shouldnt take a thermo period, maybe taking the lipotropics would be best for you right now. until you reach summer time, which by that point you may not even want to take a thermo, but if you do then it would be a better time for you.

RE: Fat and Muscle - Sunday, March 12, 2006 7:36 PM
and to dan, i did both the tape and caliper test. i didnt do the 7 point one because i didnt have anyone here to help me with my back and tricep. they both had different answers. let me ask you, on your stats it says that you have 27 pounds of bodyfat. does it look like you have that much. if you are a personal trainer i would think that having that many pounds of bodyfat would not make people want to come up to you for advice. i mean when i think of a personal trainer i think of someone that is real toned or ripped even.
