Hi when they mean 3 sets of failure with 8-12 reps, do they mean for each set, i lift until i reach 8-12 reps or just failure on my 3rd set?...

Pick a weight that you fail with on all 3 sets between 8-12 reps. Say you use 50 pounds for dumbbell curls, the first set you get 12 reps but no more, the second you get 10 and the 3rd set you get 8. That means 50 pounds was the right weight to use
