F Me! : Did the GNC guy screw me over? - Wednesday, July 01, 2009 4:07 PM ( #1 )
It's GNC Gold Card discount days and I went in today with a list:

One of you guys recommended magnesium.  The GNC guy talked me into something called ZMA (zinc magnesium aspartate).  When I got home I noticed on the label it has only 30mg of zinc.  That's only 15% of the daily value!  WTF!  How much magnesium should I take?  Is this ZMA worth taking?

I also wanted Casein protein powder to take before bed.  He sold me Nitro Core 24.  It says "sustained release formula," 25g protein, 5g fiber, blend of proteins including casein, designed for any time of the day or night.  Anyone know anything about it?  Also got L-Glutamine powder to mix in it.

Should I look of pure casein powder, and also magnesium only tablets?  Thanks!

That company screws you over any time you go in there with their insane prices.  Shop online next time.  Much cheaper.

If you're looking for magnesium, get a pure magnesium supp.  ZMA is good to take if you need help sleeping.  Just don't consume anything containing calcium after you take it.

WOAH!... Sounds like a labeling problem.

15mg of zinc is 100% of the DV.  Maybe they mean that supp has 30 micrograms.  Even then, that's a pathetic amount to put in a zinc supplement.

If they really put 30 miligrams of zinc in it, you're at 200% of the RDA.

Have to get my reading glasses on (fine print):

Label says
Magnesium (as Magnesium Aspartate 300 mg)    60 mg  =  15% Daily Value

Sounds like you're saying it DOES have enough Magnesium, right?  I should take it?

Do you know anything abou the Nitro Core 24 for a bedtime protein shake?  Thanks!
The Vegilante has been located, yeah!  :)

illpumpyouup.com has some really good prices.   Also check out the vitamin shop,  sometimes their prices are cheaper on line but they will match in store if you tell them.  Some people like gnc with their buy one get one half off,  but even then it's still cheaper to purchase online even with shipping.  plus how often do they even have their bogo deals.

ZMA is more of a sleep aid.
I do cottage cheese for casein protein, way cheaper than any sups.

Okay... that makes more sense...

"Magnesium (as Magnesium Aspartate 300 mg)    60 mg  =  15% Daily Value"

That doesn't help much.  Personally, I think they should fire the idiot who put the 60 mg nonsense on there.  It's confusing.  Unless they're saying that you only get 60 mg of bioavailable magnesium from 300 mg of their Aspartate version?  Key Riced.  What an obnoxious label.

I have another supp from GNC that says 50 mg of Magnesium is 13% of the RDA.  Extrapolating that gives you roughly 400 mg for 100% of the RDA.  If they're saying all 300 mg of Mag Aspartate is the relevant part of this mix, then this supp has 75% of the RDA for magnesium in a single serving.  That would be my guess, and just ignore the 60 mg = 15% BS.

Veg and Wetdawg,
So the magnesium (ZMA) is okay to take?  I could use some quality sleep for the muscle building.  I'll probably mix the glutamine in with cottage cheese.  Thanks!

From time to time I get restless, that ZMA does wonders. Take it as directed right before bedtime. About a cup of Cottage Cheese before bed, will help all night long.

The calcium from the cottage cheese blocks zinc absorption and makes ZMA less effective.  You would be better off with something like peanut butter before bed.

I always wondered why the barrel when a it would fit in a bottle.  Always a joy too when the little plastic scoop is buried deep down in the powder.  :(

what are the benefits of magnesium?? It's a natural laxative so you'll be spending more time on the ceramic seat then the bench.

As Veg would say, "Key Riced!"  With stuffing the calories in, I'm already like an upside-down Vesuvius.  :(  Natural laxative?  I can hear the alarm bells going off at the water treatment plant:  "AWOOOGA!"

I remember watching Mike Rowe help replace a sh*t pump at a municipal sewage pumping station on "Dirty Jobs".  Probably the only time I ever felt sorry for him.  But then I reminded myself he's a celebrity, and I piled on another jumbo veggie burrito.

We only had one for the longest time, until we added one in the basement.  Before then someone would be droppin' a deuce while the rest of us were doin' the dance.  :(
