Exercise Bike - Monday, October 13, 2003 3:03 PM ( #1 )
Does anybody currently have an exercise bike at home, that they would recommend for light/moderate cardio? I'm thinking of getting some kind of cardio machine but it's gotta be pretty mid-sized to small and be sturdy. So if you currently have a reasonably priced machine, the name would be good so I can scout around on eBay.

Thanks,

Marc

My parents have an exercise bike they never use... you could probably buy it off them pretty cheap. It's small... and it's one of those bikes where your legs go in front of you... not beneath you (not sure what it's called). Let me know if you're interested and you can go check it out.

I thought you were against cardio? Trying to shed off a few extra pounds for Olympia?

Instead of getting an exercise bike, I just bought a mag trainer for my regular bike. Now I can use that for indoor cardio, and if I want to ride outside, it takes about 20 seconds to pull the bike off of it. Add a simple bike computer to it, and you've got all you need. This is the trainer that I got, though I'm shocked at the price, it was only 99$ when I bought it... You might find it cheaper on eBay or somewhere else.

These guys have some other trainers by the same maufacturer that are more reasonably priced, and the RDA-850 looks pretty nice. Of course if you don't have a regular bike none of this helps you...

Unfortunately since the last day of college, I don't have a bike of any kinda anymore. So I'll be looking around to find something cool. Costco had nothing. At least the one in my area.

I need a real sit on bike where I can break a sweat. But thanks for the offer Kris.

And no I'm not looking to shed pounds for the Olympia. But I do want to eventually cut at some point and I don't want to miss cardio because it's too dark outside to walk. That or I'm afraid of cows on that walk. Not sure. They look mean.

Here's a couple of links for exercise bikes..

Gatley's Department Stores

BigFitness.net's Collection of bikes

Now it's time to look around.. I wonder if this is kinda something that you actually need to try? I'd hate to order one of these only to find out it's cheap and sucks. I found these links on Amazon but no reviews.

I'm considering this one.

It's iFit compatible which means I can download more stuff to it (workouts and such).

It's small. It looks sturdy. It's in the price range for decent home equipment. I'm looking for something to use when I need cardio on the off days. While I do think cardio is over-rated, I think never doing it might be a bad idea.
