EAT EAT EAT wont i get fat?!?!? - Sunday, February 08, 2009 9:53 AM ( #1 )
Ive made a few posts asking questions about what i should be doing to gain lean muscle and get a cut toned looked more so than a body builder look and everyone is still suggesting that i eat eat and eat some more wont i get fat?!?!

I'm 19yrs old 5'8 137lbs and i'm def not fat or rail thin and im lifting 4 days a week and doing cardio 4 days a week also and like i said i am interested in putting on muscle and want to get a MMA tyler durden "fight club" toned body not an Arnold Pumping iron body... So with that said if anyone has any suggestions of what type of diet and meal i should get on or what foods i should eat and what foods i should avoid in order to achieve my goals and how many calories i should be taken in a day that would be greatly appreciated and exaclty

Thanks to all

Eat clean and eat a lot.

Lift and lift hard.

It's not gonna happen over night, but eventually you should be seeing results. Be consistant and train hard, no excuses.

137...thats pretty close to rail thin...

but to answer your question, it all comes down to calories taken in vs calories needed. You need to be in a surplus to put on muscle.

eat eat eat? yeah kind of. and im going to guess your probably an ecto with a high metabolism since you are 137. If your that serious about it, find out how many calories you need and exceed that amount, compensate for your cardio as well. Do a search and look more into this.

And the big thing is dont be so worried about gaining fat if you do, its not the end of the world and a lot of times a little bit will come with the muscle your bulding. You can simply shred it off later.

quick and dirty version...
lift heavy, eat enough calories to grow and you will gain muscle

You think Brad Pitt went straight from being a blank canvas to a carved up mother****er? No, he didn't, but you don't know that because actors generally don't act when they're at the peak of their bulk and have 15+% body fat.

If you want to get big, you're going to take on some fat. So yes, eat a whole ****ing lot. Since I don't particularly care about fat too much, I just look to see if a food has high fructose corn syrup, or a significant amount of crap that I can't pronounce in it. If it doesn't, it fits the bill and I eat it. That's the general idea, pretty simple yes? It sounds like you do care though, so you'll want to read up on this board. It helps a lot.

I doubt brad pitt ever had 15% bf or most actors who bulk up for that matter.  (Though I guarantee alot of them use more than just nutrition and exercise) There's no need to get fat on your bulk.  If you wanna be cut, then dont get fat on your bulk; its a serious progress slower.  Find out how to eat so youll gain lean mass, then when it comes time to cut down you wont have much to get rid of.

The leaner you are the better ratio of muscle to fat youll also gain, another advantage to staying lean on your bulk.

umm you're only going to need a little muscle...  brad pitt was only 150 5-6%lbs in fight club and he's 5'11... 13 lbs more than you, but also 3 inches taller, thats basically the same size, he's probably got maybe 5 lbs of muscle more than you and probably a lot more cut. so i'd say bulk 7-8 lbs os muscle, then cut till maybe 6% bodyfat

So basically, if your trying to look like brad pitt, you really wont have to eat all that much, EATING A ****LOAD is for people who want to look like arnold basically :/,(like me :D ) to ahieve brad pitt's physique in fight club you're going to actually have to keep your bodyfat at a minimal, so i say, dont eat too much, maybe somewhere from 2k to 3k calories( THAT IS VERY BROAD, i know, so dont comment on that anyone else.) but dont go under or over 2k or 3k calories and you should be good

It doesnt really matter what you want to bulk up to, it should be done relatively the same.  Just cause you want to stop your bulk at a lighter weight doesnt mean you should change how its done.

yeah i guess, but i mean, if you wanna look like brad pitt, you need to keep your calories to a minimal. you dont NEED to bulk and cut and to get a body you want, i do it that way, but you can just keep a very strict diet and keep the fat off

Clean bulk all the way... I don't get this dirty bulk thing, this is mean't to be bodybuilding, building health and vitality as well as muscle.. Like Rollingstone said the leaner you are the better your muscle gains to fat ratio will be. Get lean and clean bulk..from my understanding there's only a certain amount of muscle you can build in a year, if you get a realistic 2lbs a month that's only 24lbs a year, that's if your lucky!
