exercises
Check out this link- There's info there on all kinds of exercises, although I have to tell you, in order to build muscle, you're going to need something heavier than those eight pound dumbells. That weight is far too light to really build muscle with, even for a guy who has just started working out.
My next comment is- You only mentioned working out your arms and chest- I understand you have limited equipment, but you should really think about working out the entire body. Your chest and arms will only grow to a certain size if they are the only muscles you work on- The rest of the body needs to be worked in order to get a nice proportioned look, and in order to prevent possible injury down the line.
Hope this helps.

If you are going to use a dumbbell set, you might want to invest in a type that allows you to add or subtract the weight used. 8lbs won't do much for building muscle. Might make you tired doing many reps, but if you are 18, the best thing you can do is to read up on nutrition now and get yourself a nice dumbbell set and do what cpl suggested. Follow that link and do a variety of exercises to get the body growing all over.

oh poop, i forgot you only have dumbbells... in that case: you'll need to find somewhere to do some chin ups or some place where you can do lat pull downs

day 1:
3 set dumbbell bench press
3 set dumbbell incline press
3 set dumbbell flies
3 sets seated dips/dumbbell kick backs

day2:
3 sets chin ups/lat pull downs
3 sets bent over rows
3 sets reverse flies
3 sets dumbbell curls

day3:
3 set dumbbell shoulder press
3 set dumbbell lateral raises
3 set dumbbell shrugs

your a young kid still, i just came up with this based on my past experiences (because i am 16) and current knowledge, but im sure anyone on the site will be more than willing to give you a program. its kind of limited because you only have dumbbells so this is the best i can think of right now, but if you ever join a gym or get more equipment (i know its expensive) the max ot program is the way to go.

once again gl and keep us posted

btw, do this program once maybe twice a week, be sure take days off though for recovery purposes

You should invest in a barbell, a pair of dumbells you can add weight to, and some weights. With those things, you can add some exercises that'll help build serious muscle. At the very least, get a set of dumbells you can add weight to, like MDA said. Plus- If you don't have a bench, don't try to improvise one- I hate to say it, but without one there's not much you can do for your chest, except maybe weighted pushups. Read the max ot link, it'll tell you a lot about working out in general- What to eat, how often to lift, etc-
The Basics by Twin Peak
Also, check this link out- More good info.
You can do a lot with just dumbells- If they're heavy enough, you can do a killer and complete arm workout, as well as shoulders, maybe even chest if they're heavy enough- But they do limit you when it comes to other areas. In my opinion, you're going to need access to more equipment if you can get it- If not, hell, an improvised workout still beats the crap out of no workout.
Hope this helped-

Well, if you have a La-Z-Boy, you can do some incline flys (and do 'em in comfort too!), but yeah, you pretty much need a bench or a Swiss ball.

No.

1) Not enough support
2) Not a full range of motion
3) Might as well do inclined push-ups on a chair, or get those push-up bars so you get a nice deep stretch.

Do not do inclines or dumbbell press on your bed.

Just go with push-up variations if you cannot get a swiss ball or bench.

But the Swiss ball isn't that expensive and it is very versatile and compact. It's a great alternative for $$$ considerations as well as space.

My gym's body pump classes use the steps ( the cardio workout steps ) equipment to do the bench press. I found the width to be a bit wider than that of the bench though.

Keep safety in mind at all times- If you're doing bench presses with a bench, and something goes wrong, you just have to push one last time to get the weight placed on the uprights. Whatever you decide to simulate a bench with, make sure you have a plan in mind in case something goes wrong- I've been stuck under a barbell a few times, I'm sure many people have. I hate to think what that would be like on a swiss ball- Of course, with a swiss ball you would probably have to use pretty light weights to make sure your balance is okay... Those things do kick ass though.

Hi. I am based in the UK, and I bought myself a bench for only £50. It comes with the upright support arms and a leg extension piece at the end for your quads. It is not the best quality York have ever produced, but it is good enough for what i want to do with it, and not too expensive. Im sure if you wanted to you could find a cheap bench, maybe try ebay.com?

Good Luck,
Stu.
